I'm planning on installing two Audiobahn AW1206T's, 1100 Watts RMS each with an Audiobahn A12001DT amplifier powering both of them. Will I need to buy a high output alternator?
Sure, why not? Another solution would be an Optima Yellow top battery under the hood and, if still needed, an XSTATIC Batcap in the trunk near the amplifier.
If the amps were capable of producing that power @ 12.5V, you would need 176 amps of current under abusive conditions with music. The car needs 40 - 60 to operate.
i would go with a higher amp altenator. in my other truck, which was a chevy, i had a 200 amp altenator. i had two 1100 watt memphis amps and 4 12's in the bed. also had two batterys under the hood also. which might be an option for you. if you go with a yellow top optima, i would get two and put one in your trunk. they are non-spillable and wont put off harmfull fumes. thats with a higher amp alt. too.
