This sounds good! There are several other potential U.S. buyers, so if Kerkorian doesn't get it; lets hope one of the others does. But it does sound that Kerkorian wants to help build up the company be one of the top automakers again; I dont know about the others.
I think it sounds great. There were some who did not want Kerkorian to get it which was supposively why the "merger" happened in the first place, but the simple fact of the manner is that if Kerkorian wants to invest this kind of money into the company, he is dead serious about building up the company. The problem with the management of the other companies has been that the executives have been more concerned about themselves and not the company they are supposed to be working for.
I agree, he's wanted something like this for years and will hopefully turn things around.............

Here's hoping it goes through. Seems to me anyone willing to invest that much and take that kind of risk will do everything they can to make sure the company succeeds.
I think it's a smart decision, it'll benefit the both of them when DC eventually makes a profit. If he bid 22.8 billion in 1995, My guess is that he will be more than willing to bid up to that this time and who else will match that??? Another thing this does is add to the bidding war and could create a very large closing bid.

The deal should be good, I like the idea of Chrysler being 100% American as stated.
I hope so, I didn't appreciate Chrysler using the SLK platform for the Crossfire or which ever MB suspension they used for the 300/magnum. Chrysler wants to draw in the luxury crowd, but taking the luxury from us isn't the right thing to do. With that concept, they should buy Honda and use their engines to boost that little unreliabletrend Chrysler has going on.
Hardly what Chrysler is worth, the bid will be much higher. They really could pull the 300 off if they stopped using cheap materials like Dodge. Make the 300 an Imperial. Make the Pacifica more geared towards the x5, Acadiaor M-Class to boost sales.
I think the problem ultimately lies in upper management. They haven't done anything with the vehicles or produced incentives excluding rebates. Rebates will go only so far, however if they created an incentive for people to actually want to buy these cars and appreciate them, thenChrysler's golden.
Will Mercedes finally be rid of Chrysler for good?

What unreliable trend are you referring to? Most of Chrysler's engines are fine in terms of reliability, refinement might be a different storyfor the smaller engines (World Engine, 2.7L).The World Engine linehasn't been out long enough to determine if they are reliable or not. The problems with the 2.7L have supposively been resolved. The 3.5L is a reliable engine as is the other SOHC and OHV varients of that family. The3.7L/4.7L and 5.7L do not have any wide spread problems. I really don't see your point in needing to outsource yet again. The only thing Chrysler needsis to add some updated technology to their V6and V8 line (VVT and Direct Injection).

I agree that is part of the problem.Chrysler needs a serious update ina majority of the engine department and they need to shead themselves of outdated, uncompetitive technology (4-speed automatics). Rebates have been one of the things hurting Chrysler's image and profits. They should instead spend thatmoney on improving their line-up. If it won't sell without an incentive, then it shouldn't be sold.
