Its not so much that the nitro is a failure, more than its just falling short of expectations. If I remember right they hoped for every 3 liberty's one nitro would sell. Making the nitro 25 percent of plant capacity. In realitly its 5 libs to 1 nitro. Putting it under 10 percent of capacity. The sebring sedan is just plain ugly. Somebody please just kill the nassau comcept too!
OK, but that could be read in 2 different ways. Since day one the liberty has been outstripping sales expectations, so maybe its not that the nitro is selling slower than expected but the lib is selling way fast. I know 2 people who bought libs in the past 2 months alone.

What I like about the nitro is that front clip, and the dash--those 3 separate, round guage pods should be in the Wrangler! The front clip is a bit narrower than the rest of the body, with the fenders kind of popping off the sides which looks like a funky, modernized interpretation of the separate hood/fender style cars had in the 30's and 40's. In fact, as much as the idea makes me nervous, that front clip would be perfect for a Dodge version of the Wrangler.

No, the total production has not increased. They have to build trucks. They were hoping that the nitro would make running a third shift valid. But it has not.

Ok then I see what you mean. Still I guess the nitro is a hit in some areas not so much in others. They're popular here, thats all I know.

Agreed. Flat black plastic has been pushed on us before - like the Chevy Avalanche and Honda Element - people didn't accept it then, nor now.

Some people will buy any ugly, poorly designed vehicle just to be different....Yugo, Edsel, Pacer, Pinto, etc. In my days of rebellion, I even bought a VW Thing.............

I went to the Chrysler dealer today in Australia and saw the Nitro for the first time as they had one on display. They are not released yet but they are taking orders, it was damn nice. They also had the Sebring which has been on sale for a month now but the dealer said they hadn't sold any yet but heaps of people have been inquiring about the Nitro since being on display. we are getting the 2.8 diesel, do you get that there?

Well, lets not confuse 'different' with ugly. VW Things are FAR from ugly. Thats a cool ride. Now those other crap piles you brought up, I can back you up on. The nitro just hasa different look, and sometimes that takes some getting used to. At first I thought the Element and scion xB were ugly, but they grew on me. Im the type that given a choice between something boring, unimaginative and mundane like a sedan and something thats so out there its a love or hate thing, Ill go for the love or hate every time. At least someone was thinking outside the box when the element was designed. No matter what you do to them, sedans are about the least innovative thing on the road. There's a large market for that, obviously. Otherwise camrys, accords, and tauruses wouldnt sell like they do, and they wouldnt almost all be grey, white, or beige also.

The nitro isnt going to be everyman's ride and its not meant to be. If you decided to only produce cars that would sell to the most people, then there'd be no muscle cars, wranglers, or sportscars. You'd see nothing but suv's that cater to the non-enthusiast, sedans, and minivans. Which would be boring.

Come on Chase that sebring is butt ugly. It has a side profile only a mother could love.

Yeah; getting rid of the Toyota rear-end would be the first one!
