Merger/Buyout of Chrysler, What is best for Dodge Lovers?
i completely agree with you. i am from the detroit area and my family still lives there. My dad works at the warren truck plant on the line making the didge ram, and he said that if gm buys chrysler he will not have a job in a year, so he said that he would rather work for the japaneese and keep his job rather than loosing his job so the company could stay american. If GM buys chrysler and dismantles it, they will hurt the michigan economy more because of all the jobs they kill off, at least the jobs will be staying there if nissan buys them and it makes more sense for them to buy chrysler because they already have partnerships with them to build cars and trucks.
Michigan's work market sucks because of the Big 3's refusal to dismantle unions who overpaid on jobs and inability to see beyond the big profits of gas guzzling vehicles.
REGARDLESS, of who owns Chrysler, the layoffs, job losses, and closings are coming. There is no way to avoid it so my best advice is to just deal with it and move on...does it suck? hell yes it does, but thats reality.
All 3 of the Big 3 put themselves in the positions they are in, and because of it, their employees are suffering because of it...
Being that Chrysler appears to be the strongest of the big 3, I think that they could still wiggle free if they make the right moves. I would agree with a previous poster that selling to the employees would be the best way to go if they plan on selling at all.
They have a long line of models that people love, and that is what's going to be their saving grace. They need to put all of their R&D into efficiency now instead of how to make a bigger Hemi. I'm not even sure if Chrysler is offering a hybrid in the lineups, that would be a good move. There are all kinds of things they can still do to save themselves. The recession is going to hurt, but sale to a competitor would be equivalent to scuttling the ship.

That is the part I don't get about Cerberus. Chrysler never lost money in the first half of this year and their losses now are minimal, especially compared to GM and Ford. Chrysler is on the threshold of a major turn-around in a bad market. The cutting was done last year and they can absorb the down turn. I can't see why Cerberus is hell bent on a sell off when the partnerships that are in place are about to bear fruit. The main thing that is a fact is Chase bank is holding all the debt from GM and Chrysler. Chrysler's debt is minimal, relative to income. GM's is catastrophic, almost terminal: http://www.autoweek.com/apps/pbcs.dl...5/1023/CARNEWS
The only thing that would make sense to a merger between a weak but survivable company with a giant corpse is Chase is desperate to salvage GM and the billions owed to them-even if it means destroying Chrysler. Lose a little by scrapping a smaller company or lose a massive amount by letting GM die. I say, let the the bloated dinosaur die. Chrysler is a smaller, but much more flexible and resiliant company. GM would devour Chrysler and continue it's march towards death.

And you think the Michigan work market would improve if Nissan bought them? Are you kidding me??

Ah yes its all the unions fault. Nevermind the morons running the company. We have no control over what we build, or how we build it. That is all up to management. They have run this company to the ground.
But its the unions fault alright. Most people would not do our jobs, at the pace we have to do them. But I'm sure you know how it is in a vehicle assy plant right? Building 72-75 trucks an hour. Don't tell me I'm overpaid unless you know what I do.

And did I not state that its the Big 3's fault for refusing to change and adapt?
No, I've never been in a vehicle assembly plant, but I've worked in a manufacturing plant before. Come talk to me when your working a million dollar furnace pushing out 100 windshields an hour in 110 degrees heat at midnight...
Oh, and that was without a union and I was making $17.50 hr.... so while it wasnt the $30 a union might have gotten me, it was also damn good pay...
Bottom line: There are a number of reasons why the Big 3 are suffering....and people just need to deal with it..
The main reason is that people are too stupid to realize that we are outsourcing ourselves by buying foreign cars.
My point to you D was that you don't know it I'm overpaid or not. I never said you were overpaid. By the way we only make 27/hr.
So lets take the difference. 10 bucks an hour. So that's 400 a week for an average emp. There are about 60000 hourly chrysler workers.
400*60000 = 24 million. That is about what just the bonus for Nardeil, Press, & LaSorda will be this year. But yeah we are the main problem.

Say what you want about the unions, but things were alot better here in Detroit when there were more UAW jobs, you don't have to be a union member to see that. Whatever it takes to leave Chrysler intact, I'm all for it.
I was listening to CBS radio news yesterday at 4:00 pm MST and they said that due to GM losing 2.5 billion dollars they were stopping all engineering on new models, past 2009 models, for 6-9 months(old news) and had broken off merger talks with Cerberus for Chrysler. I looked all over online for verification, but so far, CBS radio news is the only place I've heard this. I have prayed, literally, for this news. I have been a proponent of the big 3 all along. But, Chrysler has been "my" car company my whole life. After General Motors tried to acquire and dissolve Chrysler, I will never buy anything GM, ever! I hope all you other Mopar fans will join me in this. I am even going to destroy the Jeff Gordon model my wife bought for me. I hate Toyota, but I would sooner buy a Toyota than a GM (and I despise Toyota). Talk about outsourcing all you want, I WANT GM TO DIE-NOW!
In case this thread hasn't been clear enough, GM officially announced they were going to kill all but Jeep when they acquired Chrysler and use the sale of Chrysler assets to offset their losses. That is why I want GM dead. And I am serious: I am going to do all I can to to spread the gospel of GM must die. We just came within a few hours of losing Chrysler forever. And it is because of the bastards at GM. Shame on you if you say you are a Chrysler fan and EVER buy anything GM again.
