Canada has a bailout ready and waiting for the U.S. to step up. Ours isn't big enough to save them on it's own, so we have to make sure they'll get enough to survive before we just throw 3-6 billion into a hole.

you could do that but the effects on the economy, the loss of jobs, and just the sheer amount of an imact it would make on the country as a whole makes it so that really isn't an option... don't get me wrong, i am a business major and feel as though since they messed up they should have to deal with it or go under but then if you take into account what it would do the our country (canada to... just not as much) than its something that i personally (and the government) really don't want to deal with...

basically its a case of "damned if you do; damned if you don't" and we just gotta figure out which one cause use to lose less in the long run

Bail them out and dissolve the UAW. All will be better along with a better business plan.

I'm not sure why everyone assumes that jobs will be lost is they go bankrupt. They go under a debt restructuring that is court supervised and come up with a plan to continue on. Many huge businesses have gone bankrupt without going out of business or losing and substantial jobs. Quite frankly, I think they would be better off that way than to just get another loan.

that is a big problem about the united states's bankruptcy policy. i feel that if a business is in the toilet, they should disolve and die altogether... obviously they are no good at what they are doing and shouldn't be allowed to continue but under current bankruptcy policies, they are given almost a "safe haven" to continue what they are doing and not take hardly any reponsibilitiy for their failures... its a crock if you ask me

yeah i understand that once they go into bankrupcy they have the ability to make a come back and usually ocme back stronger... i just think that it is almost cheating the system and becuase they know they can come back just fine, companies file for bankruptcy so they can still make money even though they have failed (in a sense)... idk i guess i am trying to say that i don't respect companies that do that only to get ahead and not have to worry about losing money left and right.
