Nofrag what i was saying was in europe they have different standards for a gas and diesel engine, because each has its positives and negatives were in america they think all engines are the same. and when it cost 1500 to 7000 to get a diesel then when they add the new emissions it adds 2000 to 3000 more and there adding urea yes urea to meet the goals, and if u dont fill up when u run out ur car wont start after so many times like a bmw and there will be more who do this. all this while using more fuel killing the diesels addvantage over a gas just to get even better emissions out of them. even catapiller said the new regulations are so tuff they are getting out of making on-highway engines, and because of that we have very few if any diesels here and they get unheard fuel econmony well for us in america any way. vw jetta gets 42mpg a big four door mercedes gets 42mpg and this is what the epa rates them at they usally get more then what the epa says were the hybids dont. even the heavy-duties get 19 to 21mpg and there makin 350hp 610lbs of torque weigh over 7000lbs and have 4wd thats better then my ram 2wd v6 with 215hp and 235lbs of torque. Even a mustang yes mustang with a 400 cubic inch duramax turbodiesel v8 with 800hp and nitrous gets 33mpg go to dieselpowermag.com to check it out and the 38mpg chevy in the 2008 diesel power challenge thank you for reading

p.s. does it bug u i dont put commas, periods,or have run-on sentences some on the v6 forum have a problem with this

Well, the Cummins in the Dodge passes the 2010 regulations already and is still pretty powerful.
I agree that they are being strangled by the smog police to the point where the mileage is going to be worse than a gasoline engine and so expensive that nobody will be able to afford one.
Get a puck or a tuner and that'll give you all the ower a diesel owner would need. Those things add up to 200hp and 250ft/lbs of torque. And can add mpg's at the same time. My buddy has his tune on fuel saver which still retains all his power and he gets 11mpg better on the highway with his tuner than the factory tune

He ran his bone stock F-250 diesel at the track with the exception of a tune and a catback and ran 13sec. That's freakin fast for an F-250 diesel that is a complete tank.

Yeah, I wish that a tune would give my Hemi another 100hp like the diesels do

I wouldn't say it bugs me but it makes your longer posts very hard to read. Throwing a few enter keys in here and there to reduce the 'wall of text' effect would help a lot

You still can't blame emissions standards on price and fuel economy, you just can't. When you do, you sound unintelligent to anybody with a working brain. Considering a $4-600 programmer can improve power, emissions AND economy, to say that it's difficult, or that it should make a vehicle cost thousands more is insane.

Usually programmers throw emissions out the window. They don't help them.

The way programmers give you more power is by leaning the mix making the fuel burn more efficient and cleaner.

also by bypassing the emissions controls. ever watch a chipped diesel under full throtle? that exhust is as black as sin. I have never heard of the "leaning" aspect before. my chipped trucks always burned more gas than before it was chipped.

yes u can the new standards have added 2000 to 3000 dollars proven fact and to get the new improved emissions the engines have to use more fuel to burn out the soot when the dpf gets filled up the new 6.7 cummins is getting 15mpg when the 5.9 was getting 18-21mpg the new fords are the worst their only getting 14mpg

Have you priced the replacement Y pipe with cats for a Ram? Back in 88, it was $1200 for the factory catted H-pipe.
Granted on a gas engine these days, it's a little cheaper since hardly any have the dreaded smog pumps and all of the associated plumbing.

The diesels are getting hit harder with cats, Urea, regeneration systems, egr systems, etc.

All of this stuff, plus the research and development cost the car company millions of dollars.

Oh, and on a gas engine, a programmer will advance the timing and safely lean out the mixture to make more power. A diesel will add more fuel.
Driving normal, my old F150 5.4L got about 2mpg better on the 93 octane tune with my Predator.
