Well it looks like they have a deal. Albeit Fiat, it better than not having a deal at all. See the link.

I figured everyone knew. Chrysler said several days ago a framework was reached and it was working on a final agreement. The first car that is fast-tracked is the FIAT 500. After that, FIAT cars will be built and branded as Chryslers. I am fearful that Chrysler will take a car that bases for $10k USD (about $18k for the Abarth sport version) and try to sell it for $15k base and try to ram the price over $20k with any options. I think, in this economy, a WalMart approach is much more sound than a Macy's business model. Get the volume and then sell the customers up with larger and/or more luxurious models. As it stands, my $18k PT Cruiser convertible is probably my last new car for a long time, if they try to jack up prices.

They asked a week or two ago if we thought (Customer advisory board) a low buck Caliber would be a good idea. Stripped down model for like $16,450. I said hell, I only gave a little over $17k for my 09 nicely equipped with 2.0 CVT2, Musicgate stereo system and upgraded 6 disc mp3 player.
Better get it down to around $14,500 to be competitive.

Even $14.5k is too much. I'm not getting rid of my 03 Neon until Chrysler has something that'll average the 34-38 mpg I get with the Neon. $14k to go down-market? Not for me. Also, the Caliber is less car than the Neon in utility. I know it is a mini-mini ute, but my Neon has far more leg room, front and back, than the Caliber. I'm 6'5" and my kids are all5'10" or taller and when I test drove a Caliber, we couldn't fit all 5 of us in. It's tight, but we all can get in my Neon. I love Chrysler, but the Caliber was a HUGE mistake. I hope the 500 4 dr is as good as it looks.

5 people over 5' 10" in a neon? Please, take a picture. lol. I had a '98 neon that I beat like a step child. Sold it to a guy I work with at 135,000 miles and he is still driving it 175,000 miles. Not bad for a loaded R/T (except chrome wheels) that I bought for just over $12,000.

As far as the Fiat deal, here on the shop floor we are expecting bankruptcy. Whenever some one says "what's up" or "how's it going" the response is "28 days" or, how many days until the 30 day period is up. If you really look at all the things that need to fall into place in 30 days, it looks impossible. The biggest issue is no one wants to take on the approximate $6 -$8 billion in debt load already incurred without going forward.

Yes, 5 people in a Neon. As stated, it is tight, but can be done. In a Caliber, it can't be done. If I post a picture, will you pay me $100? Put your money where your mouth is, as it were.
