RE: 6.1 in the 2500/3500
i agree it would be stupid of them to make and srt8 when they have an srt10 but they might put the 6.1 in a ram not for racing like the other vehicles with the 6.1 are designed for but as a work truck with more power. different tranny and rearend and it would work out just fine for towing and hauling heavy loads. i thought all along they should offer it in the ram as another engine option along with the 4.7 and the 5.7 hemi.

RE: 6.1 in the 2500/3500
I know a guy who is one of the progam engineers for Dodge in the S.E. U.S. His duties are to go around to dealerships and make sure mechanics are updated on new products and how to fix those products. He says there is about to begin a mass educational program run for all mechanics for the 6.1 Hemi. Meaning that it is what happended before the release of the 5.7 Some select technicians from each dealer have already been updated so they could work on the 6.1 SRTs. He says this is different. The 6.1 will not be as powerful as the ones in the SRTs. HP around 385, TQ around 415. Just passing this along.

thats more believable. the current 6.1 is unique to srt and wont be seen in any vehicles that arent srt, but this version u mention is very realistic.

Dodge will need to do something, with stronger engines coming out from Toyota (5.7 IForce, rumored at 375 hp and 400+ ft/lbs of torque) and the GM Vortec 6.2 (currently available in the Escalade, but will undoubtedly make its way to trucks). Both are making 30 more horsepower and 40-50 more pounds of torque.
I am not sure if the 6.1 is the answer, but pretty soon they will need to do something about the current 345/375 power ratings. Personally, I'd rather see them improve the transmission for firmer shifts, quicker acceleration, and less driveline loss
