2005 Dodge Dakota Ahead Of Schedule?
AUBURN HILLS – Chrysler Group says the launch schedule for its midsize Dodge Dakota pickup truck is progressing faster than expected, and a Chrysler executive suggests the auto maker may expand its future North American diesel Jeep lineup to include the Grand Cherokee.
The Dakota will launch at the auto maker’s Warren, MI, truck plant during the week of July 16, Frank Klegon, Chrysler’s newly appointed vice president-product development process and components, tells Ward’s.
“We just moved up pilot (builds) by two weeks. (Salable model production) will be July 16, somewhere in that window,” Klegon says. “We won’t have a market launch for a month or so (after salable production starts).”

Um.... July 16 is a friday, and we will still be down for changeover. We return on July 26. Maybe this is just a typo. But just wanted to let you guys know. And I should know, I work there. We have been building a few pilots a night though. Sure hope it sells, cause I think its kinda ugly. But thats just my .02

Like I said guys its just my opinion. But I agree that the durango is not a beauty queen either. My wife hates it, thus why she drives a pacifica. My salesman, which is also a friend of said they can't give durangos away. I sure hope those germans know what they are doing.

yeah, I think the new dakota isn't that great looking either, the current body style is a much better looking truck, the current one looks sporty and muscular, the new one, well doesn't really, maybe it's just cause i've only seen the quad cab which I didn't care for on the current dakota either, but so far my impresion is i'd rather a 04 than the 05.

Just to update, I just got home from work,(midnights) and we are starting to build 05 dakotas and 05 rams. The dakotas we are building right now will not be sold to the public. More test mules, and and corp. lease cars for the folks out in auburn hills. Last AN84 (sorry 4 door dakota) will leave the line today. The standard and ext cab already built out.
