Guys, judge the car on the merits of the car! The name won't matter if the car lives up to the standards we set for it! I sell Dodge products and have owned over 20 classic mopars in the last 30 years. I've bought them because of the performance, the looks, even the color but never because of the name! I'll never forget the customer that I had who insisted the new charger was a piece of junk because "it wasn't a Charger". I told him that DCX thought he was right and they decided that a name change was in order. They were going to call the car the new Dart! Immediately he replied "Thats a car I'll buy!" So I went into our parts department, ordered the old "Dart" nameplate, pasted them on a 2007 Charger and sold him his DART!

Today's cars are the embodiment of TODAY not the ghosts of yesterday. They can carry on heritage names if they want to but unless the car is the direct replacement for the previous generation vehicle (Mustang), the name has no real meaning. Long live the Demon, Dart, Monaco, Polara, Challenger, Charger, Coronet and every other name Chrysler used in the 70's. Those cars have a place in history. Those names were nothing more then words in an encyclopedia or dictionary long before Chrysler ever decided to use them to reference a car - - and they will be for a long time after Chrysler isgone.
i think the whole pasting the dart emblems on a charger wasnt a good decision. sure it helped to sell a car, but if they guy really like the car he would have bought it regardless of the name. if i really wanted a certain car i wouldnt let the name hold me back. i think that was just kind of sleazy for lack of a better word, to put dart emblems on a chrager just to sell a car. its not like hes gonna own the car for years and years and never notice that all the other cars just like it are called chargers. or if he calls the service dept. and tells them he needs to bring in his 2007 dodge dart for service? im sure he would figure it out eventually and if a dealer did that to me, and i found out i would be pissed, and complain all the way to the top to make sure that the dealership in question was shut down.

all things considered im gonna have to call bs on this story unless he knew you were changing out the emblems on it, then i say it was a very good move to close the deal, and more dealers should be willing to go to extra lengths like that to please customers.

nickoman01 Date 2/13/2007 3:32:57 PM really if they made this with a less ****ty interior i would be all over it. i like that color too. my problem with the interior is the seats look uncomfortable amd like they are made with ****ty material. the radio isnt a chrysler radio. if it had mygig and nice seats i would highly consider it expecially at that price

Well i would have to say Nickoman01, the interior is fine, there is nothing wrong with it at all, dont even expect those seats to go in there, and if you wait for the SRT-4 which they will make if they make this car, then odds are it will have viper like seats like the Neon SRT4. That said lets set something up to let chrysler know that we want this car ASAP!!!!

John:

The customer did know what we were doing! As a matter of fact he agreed that it would be fun to call his new car a Dart. Truth was that he found the whole thing amusing and saw how silly it was to think poorly of a car just because it wasn't what he expected from the namesake! That was my pointfrom the beginning.I think that every manufacturer would be better off to use code names (JC49) for their concepts and one-off cars. That way the public could judge the car on the merits of the car (design, appeal, driveability, ect...) not on what they expectbecause of its name.

I'll admit that I was rather skeptical when I had heard that Dodge was planning a Miata clone. However, after seeing the photos and preliminary specs of this new car,I am rather impressed.

Though lacking a backseat, this car appears to be much in the spirit of the original Demon (ie. a low-buck, high performance car with a sleek look). If Dodge is capable of giving this car handling ability enough to compete with the MX-5, they will surely have a hot seller on their hands. With the SRT-4 2.4L engine, this car would be a dominant force!

ok, wont the religious people bitch again, for naming it the demon, and "supporting the devil"?
so i think they should still make this car, but name it something else, and no, i dont mean name it the dart sport, i mean name it a new name.
its a nice little car though

odds of them keeping the name demon are slim. More importantly is a RWD Roadster with capabilities for a 2.4 turbo. Much like the Prowler But with actual muscle to back it up. Fun to drive garage toy. I will definitly pick one up IF its produced

religious groups have too much to worry about to complain about the demon name...the rest of society has gotten bad enough that naming a car the demon probably wont even get a notice.

Now everyone can shut up about DCX not planning a small coupe. I know this a vert, but it could also be a coupe. This is what I wanted to see for a while. I coupe or vert vehicle with the SRT-4 engine.
