Mine was black w/gold accents, white upholstery, 440, 4-speed (no console), 3.54 Dana, cassette player/recorder, hood pins, chin & trunk spoilers- definitely a nice ride. One that I should have kept for sure!![&o]

It does, but the 3.23 Sure Grip rear end kills a bit of the low end even though it will lay down a pair of 75+ feet strips at will. Leaving it in drive and getting into it, it would shift into 2nd at 45 MPH and break the tires loose and shift into 3rd at 90 MPH and again breaking the tires loose. I like it this way, it gives it the top end that not many can touch. With the worn out stock '73 400 high performance engine in it when I got it (the #'s matching 383 is on a pallet with a chunk out of the bottom of two cylinders[&o]) as well as stock everything else, I chickened out at 145 MPH with plenty of pedal left because of air getting under it and shaking it, the nose use to sit up in the air a bit. Now with a fresh mildly built 440, rebuilt street/strip tranny, full 3" TTI exhaust and the nose leveled out where it belongs, I would love to try that run again. I still need to get other stuff done to it though.

Hey 71 What do you use on your Mopar Performance Valve covers to make them so shiny!!!!
I just put those on mine last year and since I drive it 3 to 4 times a week to work they get dusty.
But being the **** neat freak that I can be I'm constantly cleaning them but I haven't gotton them that black.

Whats the secret?

BTW.... almost forgot... Sweet looking engine!!!!

Have you ever thought of an aftermarket aluminum radiator or has the the one you got been fine?

I ask because my father is trying to get me to get an aluminum one but I have only had one overheating issue in the 10yrs. I've owned the car.

It was 98 degrees out, we just left a car show at 4 o'clock, we where in traffic for 2.25hrs before the temp rose and I had to pull over.
This was after passing about 30 other people who where showing smoke at this point. I just watched the needle go up and shut her down before it was a problem.....

If you really want the black to pop use Black Magic Professional protectant or tire wet on a cloth and go over the valve covers with it. Then take a clean dry cloth and go over it again to remove any excess and to eliminate or lessen the wet look and smooth it out so it doesn't have the darker and lighter spots.

I have had my radiator recored, my Roadrunner was originally an A/C car so it has the largest 3 core radiator they made. I also have the Mopar Performance viscious fan on it as well as the fan shroud. If it's really hot out, in the high 80's or more, it will get a bit warm if I'm stuck in traffic, but not much more than a little over half on the gauge at it's worst. My dad's Charger has a superlight weight (11 oz.) one piece plastic flex fan and a Be Cool aluminum radiator that is huge, but no fan shroud, and his will overheat and puke in the same conditions. I keep telling him to switch to a Mopar Performance viscious fan package or even better, to get a pair of electric fans and attach them to the radiator. I would love to get a nice big aluminum radiator and electric fans, but that costs between $500 and $1,000 that I don't have.

Yeah I don't have the money now either and from the sounds of it you have the same situation I got. Mine was an origanal A/C car so it to has the larger radiaitor and 2 yrs ago my buddy's 73 Duster with the Be Cool Rad. overheated behind my car under the same conditions. I keep telling my father the car is fine but he is worried and thinks it "needs" it. Dad loves to spend my money!!
Thanks for the info I got the Black Magic stuff at home I'll give it a try!

Nothing like a good lookin', strong running 440 in a "B" body! Lookin' good! You'll love the Edelbrock heads. That's what I use and I can't say enough good things about mine. They run strong. They'll help with your pinging problem too. My radiator is recored with three rows of the huge tubes and with just a flex fan (see the attached picture), mine stays under 200 even in stop and go traffic in 95 plus degrees. There is a gas station near me that sells 100 octane leaded for $2.60/gallon. It's only 20 cents more than premium unleaded. When I pull up in my Belvedere burning that 100 octane, people sniff the air and say, "Ahhhh! Now that smells like a car should."
