Question Six times to two dealers and they are clueless

07 Caliber. Days or weeks could go by in between happenings. Only has happend when I am coasting or sitting at a light.. But the dash lights will be flashing on and off...the bell ringing and the guages going up and down....and I usually lose most of my power...or the power comes and goes along with the guages going up and down. I can barely get up 30 mph and hills are almost impossible.

I bought the extended service plan so I havent paid anything yet...but the dealer is clueless...they only reset the engine light and send me on my way admitting they have no idea.

They first thought it was my after market radio but after diconnecting the radio ...it happend five days later.

I'm kinda at a loss.

Dub.

Welcome to the forum.
Almost sounds like the alternator is failing at times and you are losing voltage which will make the PCM act crazy.

Seeing that you know enough to install a head unit
I assume you have cleaned the battery terminal for starters.
Check fuses in TIPM for proper seating.
The cause could be PCM,TIPM or as I read in a post on another forum
the instrument cluster had to be replaced.
The instrument cluster (it's more than just that) is like a
clearing house for the CANbus signals.

So Bigtsr, I am assuming that it is a big deal to add the mpg display on the left side of the IP? Ours doesn't have the display on the left pod under the gas gauge/temp gauge. Ours is a SXT. The only options besides the 2.0/CVT2 is the 6 disc dvd/mp3 radio upgrade and the MusicGate amp/speaker system. I think the display in question was part of an option package.

I believe your referring to the EVIC option which gives you MPG,DTE,Compass
etc. While it was posted on Caliberforums.com that it was done on another
late model Mopar(Challenger I believe) I have not seen it posted for a Caliber.
The cluster holds a lot of info such as actual total milage and VIN number
in memory so I think (my .02) is that you would need access to Mopar Starscan
equipment to do it.
If you look at your cluster with a flashlight you can see there are many
parameters built into your cluster readouts that are not used,I don't know
if in reality you have to replace the physical cluster or just CANbus computer
that drives it.

Take the car back to the dealer and have them run a scan report and send it to star center. And if they don't know the number its 1-800-850-star.
