Hello everyone..I'm new on here and I have a car issue that i hope someone can answer..I have a 08 dodger caliber and lately it's been making this funny noice. It gradually became louder than it was so i had it checked out and was told the a/c compresser is stuck on on and need to replace it..I was given a price but would like to know how much it cost to fix before i say fix it..I don't want to b cheated. The price given to didn't even include the parts..Can you help?
Welcome to the site.
It's hard to say right off. Labor will involve evacuating the system, removing the compressor (and anything that may be in the way) then installing the new unit, evacuating the system (at least 1/2hr of vacuuming time), adding oil and the proper amount of R-134 refrigerant. So you are looking at a couple of hrs labor and shop rates can be anywhere from $60 to $120 an hour.

Caliber has a VDOT compressor, compare to a normal clutch cycling compressor on MOST vehicle on the road, VDOT compressor WILL look like "stuck on."
if it is a nasty growling/grinding noise from the compressor area, I am going to say u need an Alternator. Remove the Belt and spin the alternator pulley by hand. most of the time u can feel something is wrong with the pulley.
Get a second professional opinion.
BUT! if you are 100% certain the noise is from the compressor, then yeah, u need a compressor.

it is the clutch pulley making that nosie. its like a loud rattleing nosie its the pulley on the Alternator, it is easy to replace i have done it. mty pulley went into fail mode chewed up the alterator so i had to replace it.
the AC pump is not the porlblem.
