Hi! I am new to this site, but I have a question. I have a 2001 dodge caravan 3.3L, and the air isn't working in it. I took to a machanic that I know and he refilled it with freeon. It still wouldn't blow out cold air. He then drained it all out and refilled it, and it blew out cool, not cold air for about 2 days and now it is feeling like the heat is on. He said that the ac compressor is weak, and we needed to think about replacing it. Does anyone have any suggestions? I am a stay at home mom and my husband makes about 30,000 a year and we don't have $1000 to fix this. My husband and my dad are good with cars, and I know a mechanic that will hook it up to the vaccum thingy and fill it up with freeon and check the pressure or whatever he does. Ya'll have to understand that you guys are talking to a female.. LOL!! Sorry that I can't tell you more of what is going on with the van. Whenever I turn the air on you can hear the compressorclick on like it is trying to get cold, but it nevers does. I am thinking that it is something to do with a leak. I think that if the compressor is broken it wouldn't even come on. I might be totally wrong. HELP!!! WE ARE GOING TO THE BEACH THE LAST WEEK IN JULY AND WE HAVE TO AC

 

chances are the compressor seal is leaking and thats why it needs to be changed.look on e-bay for a new compressor you usually can get one here for less than at the parts store.then see if the mechanic can change it for a reasonable price.

 

Call your local dealer and give them the last nine of the vin, 2001 to 2003 has a recall B05 for the a/c compressor failure.

 

It could be and H block (expansion valve against the fire wall) that will prevent it from blowing cold. I would need to know the line pressures though.
