Question Speedometer drops and van shifts hard !?

My 2000 DGC has been shifting hard from time to time and feels like the clutch is whacky.

Yesterday I noticed that the speedometer went from 25ish down to 0 back to 30 then settled around the proper speed.

When this happened the engine reved and the transmission also shifted hard.

So......what part could be sending false information to the transmission and the speedometer?

Is there a speed sensor ? Can I change it or is it burried inside the transmission?

We did have the transmission rebuilt around 109k and the van now has 150k on it.

I appreciate any insight.

Sounds like the speed sensor is going bad. It should be located in the differential area of the transaxle.

The output sensor could be bad, but the two wires going into the connector could be breaking apart inside the connector and will give the same problem as a bad output sensor.

Default Speedometer drops and van shifts hard !?

Thanks. I installed a new speed output sensor ($16 from Autozone) and all seems fine so far.
