92 grans caravan SE 3.3 4spd. transmission jumped out of gear doing 60 yesterday on the interstate. Had to pull over, cut the van off, then restart for it to work. today it slipped going at slower speed and seemed like it got stuck in one gear. had to do the same thing to get it to re shift. suggestions on what it may be??

well this transmission uses computers to control the hydraulics if you trans jumped out of gear i'm betting 99% sure that theres something bad in the trans. if the computer senses a problem it goes in to limited operating strategy which means its stuck in 2nd gear so all you get is 2nd forward, reverse, neutral and park. shutting off and turning on is just like ctrl-alt-del for a computer is resets it but if its still got a problem you just get limp-in 2nd gear default

Connector is a bright blue 6 pin connector located to the left or right of the steering column - inside the vehicle.
Important

You need to hook up a scanner and ck for transmission codes, and post. Your transmission had gone in to limp in mode/ fail safe. Thats why you only have one gear, 2nd gear.

Make sure you are not hooked up to the 6 pin connector in the engine compartment. This gives you engine codes only!

yeah after a further bit of driving its jumping directly into 2nd gear limp mode. not slipping at all. the fluid and filter that I pulled out looked good, no large metal shavings in the fluid and the magnet was fairly clean.

1996 was the first year for obd2. u cant us a jumper or code reader or autozone u gotta use a scanner a real life scanner but they aint cheap. i paid $1200 for my snapon solus but its paid for itself just in diagnosing my own stuff and i charged a few people to fix their stuff like your situation which really helped cover the cost of owning quality tools
