Low Oil Engine Light
Wow, mir and that hill-billy must be related based on the quality spelling. I just had a 1994 Dakota 3.9 v-6 come thru today. It had a flickering oil light and on solid when stopped. First thing I did was install an oil pressure gauge. When cold it had a solid 70psi. As I drove it and warmed up oil pressure dropped. @ 60mph it had 30 psi, but when I stopped, it dropped to 4psi. Definitely a bearing clearance problem, tomorrow the guy needs to decide what he wants done.
The problem may not have been the switch, but something else. Oil pump, pick up tube or a sponed bearing. That is why you want ck the oil pressure first with a gauge, before replacing parts. No you don't reset the PCM. One other thing you can try, cold weather you may try lighter wieght oil.
Lighter weight oil will cause the light to come on earlier. No matter what weight oil you have, when the engine is hot, you'll still have a light issue... therefore you'll be going right back to post #2. And the PCM has NOTHING to do with the idiot light.
I dumped the oil out from oil filter into my plam to see if there is any metal parts, but there was none!
Oil is lite weight 5w-30 (for Toronto Winter)
It is time plug a oil pressure guage or a shop

Well, I drove to a dealer. Light came on for 10 sec on up hill at 1500 RPM @ 30 KM/h. Spoke to a Master Mechnic over there. He said he can two thing plug a pressure guage or I can keep a eye on Temp guage see how it goes. After 1K change the Oil and oil Filter again!
I am going to do that and also I am going to keep a eye on oil dip stick for every 100 KM for next 1K miles
On last change I did look at oil in oil filter (fram
) look okay to me (dirty thoug)
