Default '98 caravan transmission problems

Hello folks,

I'm glad to find this forum here and hope you can help.

My '98 Caravan (3L, 230k mi.) has had problems upshifting and has a rough 2-1 downshift shift since the weather has gotten warmer.

The first time I had a problem, I found the fluid level low. After adding, it immediately shifted better.

Now the problem seems to be coming back, and is worse especially after stop and go driving on a hot day.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Welcome to DF
You need to ck for transmission codes, and there maybe a transmission flash update for the problem you are having.

Thanks for the response.

After driving the car for a while and having the problem occur seemingly intermittently, I can make the problem occur by turning on the A/C.

Any further advice?

The A/C circuit should not cause a problem with the transmission. How ever the a/c pressure switch is on the same curcuit as the TPS and MAP/BARO sensor. You may need to have a co-pilot hooked up and record the shifting problems you are having.

I thought it was weird to, but worth mentioning. Do you think my problem may be heat related since that's when I'm most likely to run the a/c?

I don't think its the a/c. you could have a problem the u/d acuumulator spring or a valve sticking in the valve body.
