Default Engine stutter/jerk while accelerating

1995 Grand Caravan, 3.3L 2WD

I just had my fuel pump die after a week or two of my engine stuttering when accelerating to highway speeds. It would seem to stutter a little somewhere between 45 and 50 MPH, and otherwise run fine. The fuel pump stopped working twice, both times after parking, and both times eventually got it going again by banging on the fuel tank (the second time while it was up on ramps to have the pump replaced). [The same thing happened last year with my '92 Town & Country.]

It now has a new fuel pump, but the stutter around 45 MPH is still present (seems to be right when it is shifting gears). I finished installing the new pump two days ago. I drove to the store yesterday, and the van would not start when I went to leave, but this time there was definitely fuel going to the engine. I had to turn the key several times and hold my foot on the gas before the engine finally kicked in. (Possibly from water/air in the fuel line?) Drives fine today, except for the stutter.

What should I be looking for for the engine stutter?

Thanks.

The shudder could be a torque converter shudder or there is a problem with the crank sensor. If the ck engine lite is on, i would at something electrical. And ck for stored codes in the TCM.

Check engine is not on. I did the key code check, and only got 12 (battery disconnected recently) and 55 (end). It seems to be when transitioning from 3rd to 4th (overdrive?) under hard acceleration. Anywhere between 38 and 50 mph, it will jerk once or twice, and seems to be more prominent when going uphill. If I "gun it" around 40, it just gets very sluggish in that range until it kicks back to normal. I tried driving with the overdrive off (my van has an O/D Off button) and did not experience the issue. All other times it drives nice and smooth, with no apparent problems.

If that changes your diagnosis, I will look into the new results. Otherwise, I may have to bring it to the mechanic.

this may or may not help. see if there is some arcing between the spark plug wires. This happened to me a few days ago, and the van had a HORRIBLE time around 2-3 k RPM.. more than likely not the problem, but if your wires are pretty old/cracked/poor condition, it doesnt hurt to check, (and replace if necessary.)

Mechanic Help me please! My 2005 Gr Caravan SXT 3.8 V6 shudders while easing off the accelerator around 40 mph, and with the tach at @1,400 rpm's. I believe I also experience the same problems regardless of the gear I am in, and this problem seems to be most prevalent while slowly taking the load off the drivetrain. I live in Florida, so the roads are mostly flat. I changed the spark plugs, motor mounts, and the plug wires look to be in great condition. all wires are currently held by the original wire supports, and don't appear to be arching. It seems like the fuel is being interrupted to the engine, which causes shuddering, and I can manipulate and hasten the problem by regulating my foot on the accelerator. Could it be the Crank Sensor? or, something else? I have had it to one mechanic who stated it definitely isn't the trque converter. Is there a chance this high-mileage van may have some blockage in the Catalytic Converter. I changed the front O2 Sensor beause the Code P0135 popped up, but a new Denso OEM sensor did not correct the code, or cause the Check Engine Light to stay off.

Hey guys, same issue as JV. Engine misses at low rpm around 1500 - 2k sometime violent miss on acceleration, stalls when switching to drive from rev or approaching a stop.
06 GR CARV 3.8 98K MILES
Pep boy diag - (only place close that was open) change plugs wires fuel treatment and Idle air motor - did all that and problem continued -finally threw a couple codes PO335 - crank pos sens a circuit performance - PO300 enginge missfire detected (no kidding) - PO339 - crankshaft pos sens circuit intermitent...
changed ckp and problem although intially better returned on test drive after about 4 minutes - no new codes - Symptoms again-
stalling from R to D
stalling intermint on stopping
bucking on gradual acceleration 1500 to 2000ish rpm not hard acceleration (has plenty of punch)

You already have a thread posted. This was quattj's thread then jamesVidella hijacked it and now you are doing the same. Why?

I had a similar issue with my 2010 minus the fuel pump issue. Changed out plugs, wires filters and ran Seafoam through it with no change. Through a P0304 once but when cleared never came back. Dealer tech said I need to take it in and have the transmission CVT reset. My gut told me to check the EGT valve. Took it out cleaned it and checked it's movement. I found it to be sticking partially open. Replaced it and problem solved. I never thought the EGR could create a problem like that but it has been 2000KM since changing it.
