Default 3.3 Voyager intermittent stalling

I've got a '90 Voyager with about 120K that will typically stall once or twice on my daily commute of less than 10 miles. Occurs most often after reaching normal operating temp, under load/in gear or idling, but mechanic, of course, can't replicate. (It will normally refire on the first or second turn, but for how long?...) Already replaced: PCV, pressure regulator, throttle body gasket. Could problem be in auto shut-down relay, or?? Kept it in good tune, but I'm running out of patience and money on an old warhorse...

Any ideas appreciated in advance.

i heard that cam and/or crank sensors often cause this. also the best test is called wiggle test. while the engine is running you grab on various wires and stuff and pull/wiggle to see if there is some intermittent connection issue.

Thanks much. Will try and report back.

Surprised your computer hasn't tripped a code.... Sounds not like a cam, but actually a bad EGR valve (search for this in forum or google for Caravan and EGR valve.... easy part to replace.)

Best bet is to check the EGR... if so... replace EGR, motovac procedure, check for cylinder misfire in any of the cylinders, correct if misfiring, replace sparks and spark wires, and run only top tier gasoline.

um, how can he check for cylinder misfire without an engine scope.

IDK if EGR could cause a stall under load in gear ? it would at idle but he said it dies under load and at idle. IDK how misfire(plugs/wires) is going to cause random stall.
I read top tier gas isn't a good idea because of burn rate. higher the octane slower burn rate. Ford had a TSB years back how premium gas would cause hard starting condition on regular gas required vehicles.

If you have a DRB3 with a supercard from 1983 to 1993 and if the monitors have been ran. You can use the misfire monitor and see the misfire count. There also was a TSB to tape and move the transmission harness away from the spark plug wires, because of RFI.

Monitors on a an OBD I vehicle? I'll have to try that on my 1990 caravan. I've never seen that on my DRB3 for OBD I vehicles. Could you direct me to the screen menu selections to get to monitors for these old vehicles. I've used them many times on OBD II.
