Default Transmission Trouble When Cold

2000 Plymouth Grand Caravan (Rampvan Handicap conversion) 3.3L. When starting on cold days (below 40 degrees), vehicle doesn't go into gear correctly. Van wants to rev up before grabbing the gear. Very dangerous when at a traffic light and car is still cold. Won't grab the gear until it warms up.

Recently didn't grab to almost 2,000 rpm, then check engine codes of P0700 and P1872 and check engine light. Once warm drives super. Has almost 100k miles and has been pretty well cared for. Started being tricky to shift from reverse to drive last winter, but is much worse this year now that it starting to get cold here in the Northeast.

All thoughts appreciated.

If the fluid is full, then it is usually a sign of bad things to come.

Welcome to DF
I think you mean P1782 which is a 2/4 pressure code. Ck the fluid level, i am guessing you are low on fluid and should also have a loss of prime code too.......P1791

I also Have similar problem, my 2002 GC sport, will not grab 1st gear after I make first stop in morning. it would go to drive normaly but when i would make my first complete stop, it wont grab the first gear after that until i rev upto 2-3 K , then with sudden jerk, it would grab the first gear and there wont be this problem again ever for the day. Next morning this will happen again. Transmission fluid level is ok.

Red face Trans Code 1782 and 0700

Fluid level is good. Vehicle has 97,500mi. Never used or leaked trans fluid. This is only a problem when cold and outside temps are below 40 degrees F.

Vehicle was build about June 1999.

Ideas?

Default Tansmission Slips at Low Temp

I have seen this happen when the incorrect traqnsmission fluid has been used (something other than ATF+ 3/4).

Is this TSB only for 2.0 L and 2.4 L or it applies to 3.3 L engines too ! when i searched over internet , it said it does not apply to 3.3 ??
