Default Heating Cooling Fan Control

1. I currently only could turn on High to get heat to work. Is it the fan/blower or is it the switch/****? Are is there another part to it?
When on lo or medium, it doesn't turn on at all, no lights.

2. When I bought this van, the digital said 16.7mpg now i'm getting only 16.3mpg. Is that much different? What can I do to gain it back? I take it in regularly for oil change at dealer.

I can only guess at what year you have and I'll assume 2001 or newer since that is where most blower issues are. The reason the blower motor only works on high is because the blower resistor fails. I have posted numerous wiring diagrams on the forum somewhere, shouldn't be too hard to find. The blower resistor fails because the blower motor sits flat under the fresh air intake and gets water in it. After time, the bushings get corroded and it makes it tougher to get the blower motor going when you first turn it on. The large spike in amperage eventually causes the resistor to fail. Personally, I would replace the blower motor and the resistor, but if your the gambling type, you can install just a resistor and see how long it lasts. The resistor is located behind the glove box and is easily diagnosed with the aid of the wiring diagram.

Drops in fuel economy can be caused by many things, dirty air filter, worn spark plugs, colder weather, etc. Depending on the mileage, you may be due for some maintenance.

Wow, thanks for the info. Actually mine is 1996. Yes, when it rain, it sometimes get inside the passenger side. I had to replaced the o/2 sensor because of that. Would be nice to see your diagram and see if I can do it myself.

So the answer is not the **** nor the blower? Just the resistor?

the problem is the resistor block which is under the hood on the passenger side under the wiper assembly (cowl) right behind the strut tower
what do you mean by "no lights"?

are you kidding.... 0.4 mpg difference. wind can make that difference and then some. the digit APPROXIMATION display is only an educated guess based on computers. how much you fill the tand will make that difference and then some. if you pull out when the pump first kick out vs topping off will make as much a 2 mpg difference (mathematically) and 16.7 is horrible. the only time I've had fuel mileage that bad on a 96 van is when I was running 90+ into a headwind across North Dakota.

water in the interior when raining is caused by the cowl drains being plugged. see picture that's the passenger side. behind the guy's hand is where the resistor is.

NO not the **** or blower!!!!. YES just the resistor!!!!!

That's why I asked if it's much difference. the digit APPROXIMATION display is only an educated guess based on computers. and 16.7 is horrible. the only time I've had fuel mileage that bad on a 96 van is when I was running 90+ into a headwind across North Dakota. I'd had asked previously regarding 16.7mpg when I first had my van and was told it's normal.

water in the interior when raining is caused by the cowl drains being plugged. see picture that's the passenger side. behind the guy's hand is where the resistor is. I've clean it, but when it rain hard it doesn't drain fast enough. When you say behind, can you direct me where exactly in the picture, top, left, right etc?

So the answer is not the **** nor the blower? Just the resistor?
NO not the **** or blower!!!!. YES just the resistor!!!!!

I DID DIRECT YOU THE "BEHIND THE HAND" AND TOLD YOU WHERE IT IS LOCATED. GO LOOK AT YOU VAN, IF YOU ARE STILL CONFUSED, TIZZY CAN POST A LINE ART DRAWING

You need to pull off BOTH drain tubes and clear out the nipple in the cowl. you may also need to remove the wiper arms and the top panel to get out any crud like leaves, pine needles etc.

16.7 is way low for my driving style. maybe you accelerate harder than me, maybe you have reformulated gas, maybe you have more hills, maybe you have more wind, maybe it's colder where you live, maybe your vehicle maintenance is lacking, maybe you have more weight in your van, maybe you have more stops and starts, maybe you have more stop and go driving, maybe ....... etc.

Is there a way to tell if the resistor is bad. Just like how we would tell by a blown cap of a capacitor or broken fuse?

Here's two pictures. One underneath the hood and one underneath the glove compartment box. Not sure what i'm looking at.

I can't open your pictures. the resistor block is right behind the hand in the picture I posted. the hand it touching the drain tube for the cowl, the strut tower is below the hand. behind the strut tower (behind the hand) IS the resistor block. it has about 1/2 dozen wires plugged into the firewall. The fire wall is the metal body structure between the engine and the dash board.
