Lost 3rd gear in transmission
I have a 2003 Dodge Caravan with 3.8L engine, lost 3rd gear but low gears are OK. Codes are P0700 and P1684. Transmissions was rebuilt 3 years ago. Does anyone have any ideas? Hate to have it rebuilt again. Thanks!
Hi , Sounds like your clutch pack piston O ring for third gear wasn't replaced during overhaul ? I'd use a different shop this time . Time is money ! The parts bend is probally full with the new overhaul parts that were never used . There are prenty of people that paid for an complete overhaul that only got the failing part replaced an charged for a complete overhaul . If they were quick on overhaul you probally didn't all your new parts ! My thoughts Lovvorn

There is only one model overdrive transmission in all vans from 1988-2007 and that model is the A-604 aka 41TE
It is definitely not a seal failure on the 2nd gear clutch pack because you won't have limp-in or 2nd gear if that seal failed.

Going down the road last night, slowed down for some deer to cross. Started speeding back up and when trans hit 3rd gear, nothing!! RPMs rev and no drive. Slow back down a little and 2nd kicks back in good and strong. Check Engine Light then came on. Limped back home in 2nd gear. Checked codes today and come up with P0700, P0715, P0720 & P0733. Is this likely a internal Trans problem or Electrical (Control system)?
