Default 2001 Grand Caravan Airbag light is on. Horn and Cruise Control work ok. Please help.

In a 2001 Grand Caravan, the airbag light is on. the horn and cruise control work ok. Which sesnors should I check, isn't there one behind the front bumper? I don't suspect the clockspring in the steering column, but maybe I'm wrong.

I remember seeing something about the airbag sensors being recalled to replace a brass bushing in 20 states that use a lot of salt to deice roads in winter. If you live up north, good chance that's what's going on as opposed to clockspring. But, have you had it scanned for codes, or disconnected the negative battery cable for 5 minutes to reset it?

You can either guess at the multiple things it could be or have it scanned and find out what the exact problem is. My elderly neighbor has an air bag light on in her 2003, I got the code out and her problem is the passenger side seat belt tensioner. When I get a chance, I'm going to get her one from the junkyard.

I agree as well. You need to scan for the codes and post.

Well, Autozone isn't going to help with their Mickey Mouse code toy. This is going to take a professional quality scanner with capabilities beyond the simple check engine code light routine.

I don't see how the check engine light would have anything to do with the air bag light or any codes between the engine computer or air bag computer?

I would agree with the absence of a check engine light. I just don't want to waste time and money guessing. It would be nice if there was a way to tell which sensor is causing the light to come on.

There is a way to tell, it's called a scanner. I sure wouldn't want any average undereducated Joe consumer messing with the air bag system. That could kill someone if they f- it up.

I disconnected the (-) side of the battery for 5 minutes. I also checked the fuse for the ABS module. It was corroded. I cleaned it and put it back in and fired up the engine. The brake light and ABS light are now off. I suspect the corroded fuse was the problem. Now on to the airbag light.
