My 2012 SXT with the 3.6 penstar motor has a misfire , and the dealer keeps telling me the "computer" says nothing is wrong

Engine computers are picky about what they flag as a misfire. Certain conditions must be met in order for the computer to say yup, that's a misfire and turn on your check engine light. What are you seeing, hearing, feeling making you conclude you have a misfire? Have a tech drive along with you and see if he can do the same.

-Transmission has a loud clunk between 1st and 2nd... that's normal
-Backing up in a slope causes jerkyness.. that's normal

I've had a 1994 Plymouth Grand Voyager LE that ate 4 transmissions in 9 years but I thought these problems were long gone.
I did hear a "clunk" sound in the transmission while testdriving a 2011 last week but I didn't pay much attention to it at the time.

I'll be monitoring these threads pretty closely in the next months as the Dodge Caravan was my #1 option.
I have a new 2012 Grand Caravan which had the rough shift into 2nd gear. The dealer found a bulletin and updated the software and now it shifts like a dream. I can't even make it shift hard no matter what I do.

Hondas and Toyotas have their share of problems too. The new trannys are supposed to last upwards of 145,000 miles.

A slight thump in econ mode in the city is normal. Having your teeth rattled when it shifts is not. After a year of "It's Normal", Threats, more threats, calls to Dodge and more threats, Dodge finally changed my transmission, soelenoids and PCM...Guess what...It shifts great, I can use Econ in the city and have picked up considerably on the gas mileage. It doesn't buck in reverse and I dont have to push the accelerator to the redline to get it to back up into our driveway. Chrysler gave me a 6 year/100,000 mile service contract, reimbursed one payment to compensate for the time the vehicle was in and out of the shop for the first year. The say I am now part of the "Enhanced Customer Care" program and I ever take the van in for warranty work I am automatially entitled to a rental on the spot. The good part is that for the first time in the year that we have had the van, I have been more than 90 days without taking it in with a transmission issue. Normally it was a pcm reprogram at least once a month. Involve Dodge early, Don't accept the old "It's normal or we couldn't reproduce the complaint" fall back. Call Dodge and when you get a case manager communicte with the dealership service department strictly through them. Demand that your cse be handed off to a factory engineer. Be polite, be firm and understand your rights under your states lemon law. It it isn't fast and it is extremely frustrating but their process worked for me. If you expect Dodge to just swap you a vehicle, you aren't going to get it. If you expect them to just pay yours off and give you another at no charge, its not going to happen. A car is not going to be exchanged like it was purchased at Walmart. Be realistic with your demands and expectations. I would not hesitate to purchase another Dodge today. As frustrating as it was, they took care of me and my family, and that matters more than anything to me.

I have the exact problem all of you are having!! I have a 2012 dodge GC sxt and has done the rough idle and reverse shudder since day 1. I have gone to the dealer 4 times and they tell me this is normal! they tell me the rough idle is due to the car saving gas!! what a bunch of crap.

they say if there's no code, then nothing is wrong.

does anyone have any advice??

what ive read is that the reverse is normal. well normal from chrysler not designing it better. due to the gearing vs think weight of vehicle. thats why when u add gas it stops to shudder but if at low rpms then it does it.

Dodge did never call me back. Problem persisted. Took it in and tech said it is due to a misfire. No CEL though. Long story short, they replaced the head cause there was low compression on# 6 I believe. 30% loss. Said that was my issue. Got it back and same tranny issue is still there. I am going to call Dodge again and see what they say. I also bought synthetic tranny fluid. If they can't figure it out, I will at least try and see if that helps.

Does anyone know if our vans have tranny filters?

how is the head your issue? are you saying they charged you to replace the faulty head they sold you?

It was replaced under warranty. The tech did say it was causing the transmission shifting problems. Obviously it wasn't as it still shifts with a clunk in stop and go traffic. It is getting worse lately. Not just feeling it more but louder also.

being optimistic here, maybe the computer must relearn with the new head.
