I did change the transmission filter and fluid with atf+4, as well as the in/output speed sensors. Drove it around. it stops when it attempts to go on 2nd gear. it keeps running on first gear, barely pressing the gas so it won't change gear otherwise it will stop. There is still no reverse. could it be TCM or solenoid driver. I'll swap an identical relay later to test.

How are the battery and alt? Bad battery or alt are very well know to cause all sorts of problems on our vans. If they are both definitely ok, you should at least get the new set of codes before doing anything else. The P0720 should be gone now, and if it's not, then maybe a TCM relearn is needed.

Here is a TSB from 2002. But I would have a clutch test done with a scanner and check the CVI too. You could have a broken hub with shaft. But thats just a guess.

It runs on first gear, no second but sounds and feels like in neutral. Restart the van and drives again in first and stays running at 5 mph or less. No reverse. I will try speeding up to above 27 mph from first gear if it will shift to 3rd then my impression will be likely 2/4 and reverse clutch hub. Will appreciate other thoughts.

I'm in the San Francisco area. We charge about 3500.00 for parts and labor. But I wouldn't know what everyone else is charging.
