Default 2001 Dodge Grand Caravan Transmission Issue

So, My GC is having some transmission issues. I was driving along and I felt my car "knock" a few times. When I stopped at a stop light after that, it wouldnt go forward at all. After towing my van to my house, I found that if I let it sit for a lil while, I can drive forward a small amount and then it stops, but I don't get reverse at all. I have been told its a transmission issue, and have already tried changing the filter and the solenoid block. Any other ideas? I know it might end up with a rebuild, but figured I would check and see if there were any other alternatives. It seems like I have 1st gear, but nothing else, and at that, I only have first gear tilll it tries to change to 2nd and then I lose everything. Any thoughts?

I agree as well, I think the planetary gears may have came apart.

what was exact solution to your 2001 GC transmission problem? I have the same issue. was planning to buy a TCM and maybe replace the speed sensors. Let me know. I would greatly appreciate it.

The OP is (was) a 1-poster, and after not showing up again for 2 years this usually means one and done. Probably bailed on his '01 after getting the estimate for a new/rebuilt tranny. But who knows, maybe he will surprise me
You said you're having "exactly" the same problem, but it's far more common to get regular limp mode where the van doesn't stall (just keeps running in second gear). So which version of this do you have - keeps going in second, or goes for just a bit then stalls?

My son described the problem as when he drives it goes about 30-40 ft the van stalls but the engine still runs, turn off the engine and 2-3 min later re-start and drives again then stalls again in 30-40 ft. Also, reverse does not work.

So it sounds like you're getting the information second-hand, remote? Which would mean third-hand for folks reading your information, making diagnosis even more difficult than usual. It's always a good idea to post the basics - year, engine, mileage, and all repair/maintenance history which might be related to this problem. Plus you need to ask if the check engine light is on (and if so, what the codes are). Definitely best to get all possible information before starting to hang on parts.

The codes we got are P0700, P0720, P0732.
It's Dodge Caravan sport 2001, 3.3L.
Has 123,000+ miles, Engine due to cracked piston, and transmission were replaced by Dodge under warranty at around 74,000+ miles. AC also replaced by Dodge a few months after while on warranty.

Those codes would make trying an output speed sensor worth a shot for a DIYer. Hold off on anything else until you get the results from doing that (best to always do just one thing at a time).
Cracked piston doesn't happen in these engines very often. Why did they replace the tranny along with the engine? Or was that a separate event?
