Hi all,
I have a 2006 dodge grand caravan sxt 3.8. For the last couple of years I have had 3 engine codes. p0457, p0456, and p0440. It has never had any effect on performance as far as I can tell. I know they are all related to the EVAP system. I replaced the fuel cap with a genuine mopar cap, and checked the hoses in the engine compartment and a few underneath the front of the van. I checked the house running from the fill cap on down to the tank. Should I shell out the bucks for a smoke test, or start replacing some parts, and if so, which part should I start with? I am going to be selling the van outright, so I want to get rid of them for good.

Ditto. The elbow fitting under the air box is a common leak point. Check Youtube for videos on the subject. There is one in particular that shows the areas to check and how a smoke test is done.

The videos I found on youtube were from a 2002, and it was a 3.3. On a 2006 3.8, the only thing under the air box are the electrical connection running to the passenger side headlight assembly and a small hose running to the windshield wiper for fluid.

OK, I started off by replaceing the NVLD assembly today. When I removed it, the middle wire of the three wire harness was broke. I don't know if I did that trying to horse the assembly down through the opening underneath, or if it was already fractured. Anyway, I reset the check engine light. We will see what happens.
