Question Reverse lights don't always work

Noticed it two times now that when the 96 caravan 2.4L is in reverse the reverse lamps do not work. Fuses are alright and im sure the bulbs work, because other times I inspected it and they light up.

Did a little research and found that the PRND switch on the transmission case is faulty or dirty? Would that be the problem?
Im not too worried about it, but I am when it has to get inspected in February.

Edit. Check the sensor today and it was barely plugged in. So I cleaned the contacts and put it back on. Terrible engineering IMO .

Its just a rubber boot that holds the connector to the sensor. No lock tab like other sensors.Bring it to the dealer and a 2 second fix would cost hundreds lol. I have to complain :P

Do you know which transmission you have in the van.

Its most likely the safety neutral switch. Use a test light and check to see if you have 12 volts. If you do, use a jumper wire and jump across one of the other pins on the connector and see if your backup lights come on.

I dont have a test light for 12 volts. I'll try with a voltmeter later.

The reverse lights didn't work again this morning, so the plug being loose didn't fix it. The sensor would be the problem and nothing to do with the harness or PCM?
