Default Parking Brake Auto Adjuster Tension Reset?

I would love to see some pics or drawings of this if possible (See steps below).
I'm OK until I see the "Install Equalizer" word in step 4. The install mention has me wondering if I need an extra part.
I am also not sure if it applies to a 2002 Grand Caravan with rear drums. Any clarification would be great.
My Parking brake goes all the way to the floor with minimal holding power on the brakes. I have cleaned and lubed all that applies inside the drums.

Thanks

1. Raise the vehicle to a comfortable working position and support.

2. Wipe the front parking brake cable strand clean at the intermediate bracket area.

CAUTION: Do use any type of sharp instrument directly on the cable strand to hold it in place. Damage to the cable strand or coating can occur.

3. Clamp an appropriate pair of pliers on the front parking brake cable button only and pull the cable stand rearward until it stops, then grasp the front cable strand and hold it in this position. Remove the pliers from the button.

4. While holding the front cable in this position, install the equalizer (attached to both rear cables) on the front parking brake cable.

5. Release the grasp on the front parking brake cable.

6. Lower the vehicle.

7. Apply and release the parking brake lever one time. This will seat the parking brake cables and allow the auto adjuster in the parking brake lever mechanism to correctly tension the parking brake cables.

1 = equalizer, 5 = cable from the parking brake pedal

2therock,

The MSRP is 75.00, part number 4683277AE. You can get it online at http://www.mopar-wholesale.com/dodge-caravan-parts.html for about $65.00 shipped. It is listed as the parking brake control under BRAKES > PARKING BRAKE > PARKING BRAKE > PARKING BRAKE CONTROL.

Well I ordered a pedal assembly, finally.

Anyone have words of wisdom on this one. I have the service manual. Anything between the lines would be great.

Have someone else do the job.................Just kidding. Before you remove the assy, use a pair vise grip and take some tension off the cable so you can remove the cable under the vehicle and don't pull the pin until you have install the assy.

I'm tempted heh! I'll bet a dealership cost is more than an hours time eh?

I'm quite capable but can tell its not going to be fun.

I take it "the pin" is a cocked and locked thing as shipped?

Thanks

Correct. It keep the pedal assy in a neutral position.
