well.. had it done, and ended up switching the Econ mode off again. Maybe I don't like the pussification it caused the engine. Seems to have smoothed the shifting though and haven't experienced the rough clunk while shifting from reverse.

My final thought on the effectiveness of the recall: "Whatever... "

I had the module done over a month age, and it has definately helped the clunking after starting moving forward, even in economy mode. There is still the ocasional clunk when shifting into reverse, from P to D, or when starting off when engine/trans is cold (west coast cold, that is). Not all the time, just ocasionally.

It is a definate improvement in "Econo" from what it was before. I now drive around town and highways, with Econo on all the time. I like my van again!

SEE UPDATE SEVERAL MONTHS LATER... (it's back again) about 5 postings further on, below

I would like my van again if I didn't have the replace the rotors every year.

How many miles did you replace them at?

First at 9,000 miles, then at 19,000.

Bump.

"I'd also be interested to hear any more updates from owners who've had this done."

Had mine done a month or so ago. My impressions are as follows:

1. Shudder in reverse while backing up an incline is still evident.
2. Good shift points during steadily and progressive acceleration from dead-stop.
3. Transmission still exhibits overly busy and unnecessary shifts up/down when travelling at highway speeds.
4. Tranny wants to be in high gear as quickly as possible - unnecessary up shifts are evident when climbing a hill at near highway speeds and when travelling at modest city speeds.

UPDATE SEVERAL MONTHS LATER:
Miage: 44,000 Km

The original problems have returned with the transmission,
generally clunky,
a huge clunk from P to D after engine off for 10-20 minutes,
shift from 2-3 (or 3-4?) weird noise accelerating,
jerky reverse up slight hill,
jerky down-shifting going up hill - well I guess it ain't no cadilac

So I'm going to complain and request another 'transmission reset' or whatever they do next week.

The weird sound maybe the underdrive compounder bearings. And the clucking could be the front motor mount or drive axle nuts. You can verify the bearings coming apart by removing the input speed sensor at the top of the transmission. Do it when the transmission is cold. Because you will burn yourself. If you see metal on the sensor, get the vehicle to the dealer. Also check the front axle nuts and torque to 265 foot pounds.

Did they change the torque spec for 2012?

2008 thru 2011 is 118 lbs-ft (160 Nm).

Pacific,

Any updates on for your transmission concerns? Has the dealer been able to duplicate the issue?

If you would like additional assistance feel free to PM me your VIN# and the name of your dealer and I'd be happy to look into this.
