Default 2011 Dodge Grand Caravan Sliding Doors Shutting

Hello,
I recently took my 2011 Dodge Grand Caravan in for a recall and the dealer updated all the cars software. This was on April 13th 2013. Since that time the sliding doors will shut at random when they get to the full open position. I have already taken the car into the dealer and they could not duplicate and there are no codes. There will probably never be a code. However I can get duplicating nearly every day. Today after work multiple times on the driver side. An hour later when I stopped picking up the kids opening with the keys and the handle. These doors have shut on my 3 year old and shut on my arms as I am placing my 1 year old in his rear facing carseat.

My car is still under warranty. They have obviously screwed up my car with the software upgrade. But if I take in they will just try to claim they can't duplicate it again. Should I tell them to keep it until they solve it? What do I do?

Thanks for the help!

P.S. The doors are not closing due to being pushed back. I am aware of that function since I went to the dealer and they showed me. No one is touching the doors when the symptom is occurring.

If you can't get it to act up at the dealer, they don't really know what to fix. I had a customer leave their van at our dealer for over a month for that issue and never did get it to act up. They finally took a video of it on their phone and brought it in. Maybe you could do that.

One reason I never update software unless a problem exists.

Default Update

I got the car back into the dealer when it was closing the doors frequently and it coded for them. They are replacing switch P/N: 1ES33BD1AB. But that is on permanent backorder. I am looking online for the part but don't want to end up with the same faulty one so I am getting help there.

So still not fixed but closer.

FYI: re-learning/training the doors dramatically reduced symptoms from daily to once every few days. I think that Dodge should re-learn the doors after all software updates anyways.

I have one doing the same thing pretty much. You need to have them unplug the connector on the bottom of the sliding door and use the door MANUALLY until the part comes in. You don't want it shutting on anybody anymore.

It is not fixed by the switch replacement or the door module being replaced. Brought in both September and October Chrysler directed dealership and went over the car in detail. Car was in for code check today. About to bring the car in again. If you are a Chrysler tech and have this symptom please contact Customer Assistance Care 1 (800) 763-8422 and ask for Case #: 23931873 and speak to Tina.

If you have this symptom on a car I would like to talk to you about that vehicle and its history and compare to mine.

I am reaching out to the public. I started an NHTSA complaint so details are there and a short demo video can be found through it as well.

There are 2 modules in the sliding door. One inside the door and one inside the track/motor assembly. You might want to ask them which one they put in. The one inside the door won't change anything. There could even be a small break in one of the track harness wires that is intermittent. If they can't duplicate the problem, anything they put on is just a guess. But if it's closing on your person they need to start chucking parts at it until it's fixed.

The reps aren't going to disclose any info about your case to other callers. As a tech, I don't have conversations with Customer Care staff for technical assistance. That's not the channel we go through.

That's correct, We have channels to go thru first. Did you ask the rep which switch or module that they referring too? I know I have replace one sliding latch assy last month. That was on a 2012, because the sliding door wouldn't close.

Thanks for the help and taking the time to describe the system. Thank you for mentioning the different door modules I will check on that today. I am confident they only changed the door module and not the track module.

Problem is this a warranty repair and the symptoms are still happening but they are not producing codes unless the car is in the stall with the master code reader. However the door will shut once and not do it again that day. We were told the portable code reader will not catch it. We are trying to get customer care to release the dealer to replace parts.

I inherited mine from 2 other dealers. They did come to us a few months back one time but another tech couldn't duplicate it. Their symptoms started out every couple weeks, then progressed to now. Mine is not generating codes either. Never has...which is why we are going at the module. If the module's stupid then it can't tell us it's stupid.

The door opens, but shuts back by itself. When I try to stop it and reverse the direction, it takes a good bit (way too much) of my strength to make it reverse. I'm a big dude. I think I stripped the motor gears because it's seriously screwed up now...lol.

We just unplugged the large connector under the bottom edge of the sliding door panel until the parts come in. They can still use it manually without any trouble though.
