[5th Gen : 08+]: Replace Rocker Arm Assembly 2010 4 litre
I have a 2010 Grand Caravan SXT 4 Litre with tow package.
Here is my dilemma.
I have had the Rocker arm assembly replaced twice once at 44000km and once at 60000km. Both times the diagnosis was the same. Quote from invoice “Exhaust Lifter CarriageWorn into shaft supports causing lifters not to seat properly on valve stem.” The dealership was great and did the work under warranty.
This is how it happened both times.
When the weather started getting colder in the fall the engine would start tapping only at start up in the mornings. This would continue on through the winter and progressively get worse until it never stopped tapping. Happened exactly the same way both times.
However when they repaired it the second time there was a note on the work order that said “Replace Rocker arm assembly, as per engineering recommendation CASE NR 60004927” Do any of you know what they might have done and if this fix will last. I really like this van and would like to keep it but if this ends up being a $1000.00 regular maintenance item. The thought of this really concerns me.
Sorry to repeat my question but does any one out there know what they have done and will it work as a good permanent solution.
Thank you.

I don't think it's an issue that all 4 litres have. But have been payingattention to other 4 litres and I occasionally have heard the same tapping. Itis frustrating. Makes me lose confidents in owning the vehicle. Makes me wantto trade it in. Of coarse that’s what Chryslers wants us to do.
Have someone start it or use your remote start if you have one with youstanding near the front of the vehicle on a cold morning. This is how I firstnoticed the tapping. It progressively got worse.

Itried getting more details when the work was done but as always the poor guy was very busy rushing around and really didn't have the time to tell me indetail. I will try calling him and will ask again.
Hello DodgeCACares,
I contacted the service advisor; he told me the engineering recommendationwas to replace the parts. No special instructions. Still feel the same don’t have the confidence that it won't do it again. If you can shed some light on if it will last or do it again I would be thrilled.
Thank you again.
