Moving into winter I have the trickle charger on the 6 year old battery. Starts right up. I do know that without the trickle charger after a couple of weeks of non-use it probably would not start.
Gotta agree with the above. I put all my tractor batteries on trickle charges for the winter...... Last battery I had to replace as about 11 years old.
I could be wrong, but it seems that I'm extending the life of the old battery with the trickle charger. I've heard that having the battery at 100% charge is not good (20% - 80% better), but again, it's an old battery.
Purchased my 2013 Dodge Challenger SXT Plus brand new as it only has 2200 miles. Started every two weeks for 15 to 20 minutes. Rarely driven as one can see the milage noted. It has been 12 years without changing the battery. However, recent cold weather apparently discharged the battery. I had to jump the car as it is garaged. Let it idle for about 40 minutes and shut it off. The car started the next day. Symptoms
1.) Interior light only staying on for 5 seconds or less when closing the door.
2.) No Key FOB detected when standing outside the driver door with Key Fob in hand and vehicle running.
3.) Clock was off about 40 minutes.
Apparently I'll need a 'new' battery. Staying with MOPAR.
* I do not drive the car in bad weather and/or rain. We are in the winter and I'm somewhat caught with the weather conditions. How long will this battery last and when will it discharge again. I have a battery reader I can plug in the Cigar Lighter but haven't as yet. Really not a big deal since I'm not going anywhere witth the car as it has always been garaged. Worst coming to worse will the battery always take a jump to start the car?
All replies are appreciated. I have not been here for a while. 2013 Dodge Challenger SXT Plus 3.6 Liter
I've managed to get 7 years out of a factory battery one time. Usually, I get 4-5 years out of them. I think a new battery should fix most of your issues.
Thanks very much for the courtesy. Unfortunately, it's winter and I do not take my car out in rain, never mind snow. I'll hopefully wait for some good weather to have a new battery installed.
