Why not just get NAV for your cell phone instead? Verizon has it... No need for expensive outdated toys...
Just a thought.

You should know that your not suppose to use your cellphone when your driving LOL
You laugh at that but my cell phone makes me money, and houston has decided to start writing tickets for cell phones while driving. I have a bluetooth that is my best friend now.

Right you are Les... I should have not given the impression of that. But your sweetheart in the passenger seat can use a map just as well, or a NAV phone, or the NAV car system like they should be, right?

I swear to glory that my wife was once a rally car navigator, because she can take a map and put us in the right spot everytime... But I can see they could be a great tool to find restaurants or points of interest and those kind of local places if they are up to date...

I didn't get the set up in my Daytona for NAV or Bluetooth. I mostly drive in areas I don't need them. But there could be times they would be handy!

Here's a good Entertainment System write-up from another forum...

Hi guys, just want to give back to the forums of my experience with my Pioneer D3 installation in a very step by step way.

Current Audio System:
2 x 12" Infinity Perfect 12.1's
Kicker 550.3 Class D 3 channel Amp
Rockford fosgate Fanatic X 6.5" components (tweeters mounted in dash)
Se7ven Line convertor in the trunk

REC Navigation factory head unit:
PROS:
- Factory setup yields less chance of theft
- Factory 6 disc changer, and Mp3 play, quite versatile
- Navigation has been pretty accurate (although out of date)
- Excellent factory integration (steering wheel controls, evic, etc)

CONS:
- SOUNDS HORRIBLE using line convertors (excessive bass boost at lower volumes)
- Unable to get rid of engine whine no matter what I do
- Difficulty going through menus to select MP3's
- NO VIDEO!! Unless Nav to go

*** SO I DECIDED, F*** the REC, lets go aftermarket***

HERE IS WHAT WENT IN:

Pioneer AVIC-D3 navigation DVD unit
Pioneer BTB-200 bluetooth module
Pioneer I200 Ipod interface
Pioneer RM-10 AV2 audio video interface
New RCA streetwire cables and AV cables to the trunk
IPOD 30gig 5.5 gen black
PAC C2R-CHY add-a-deck wiring harness (for VSS, reverse wire, and no cutting)
PAC SWI-PS (pioneer steering wheel interface)
PAC SWI-CAN (Canbus interface for steering wheel)
Metra deck installaiton kit for factory navigation bezel
Video/Navigation BY-PASS (modify harness)

**REVIEW**
Installation:
1. Holy $hit, was this ever the easiest install especially wiht the C2R CHY. NO mess no fuss, just straight up match colours and plug in!!
2. Metra kit fits perfectly into the navi bezel
3. Everything worked the first time!!

D3 - REVIEW:
GENERAL
1. This unit has a 6.1" LCD screen,a nd I will add, it is NOT the clearest screen even when watching DVD's. My old 7" screen in my maxima was worth 200 bucks and looked clearer, but I am not complaining. IT still looks great!!
2. Overall menus, and touchscreen is very intuitive and very easy to use. Lots of flexibility, and variety of the cool features for a cheap unit like this.

NAVIGATION **WARNING***!!!
1. At first i was amazed as to how flexible this unit is!! Check it out:
a. Awesome touchscreen to enter addresses etc (way better than the REC for input!!!). YOu can even search by phone numbers!!!
b. Multiple views for navi! 3D view, top view, etc.
c. So many variety of options, including shortest/fastest, multi routes, etc.
2. HOWEVER!! WARNING!!!!! The routes this thing chooses is absolutely stupid!! I repeat, this unit is incredibly stupid when it tries to give out directions!! sometimes it will make you take the weirdest routes that can add 20-100miles onto your trips. Dont believe me? Check it out at AVIC411.com. MANY complaints. THE FACTORY REC NAVIGATION IS WAY BETTER WHEN IT PICKS its routes.

***if you are a heavy navigation user, STAY VERY FAR AWAY from this unit**

IPOD Interface
1. This is my very first IPOD, but wow, its amazing. I was reading up on the MOPAR ipod inteface, and it is truely garbage in comparison to this unit. So many different ways to get at your music, its wonderful having the ipod.
2. BIG DRAWBACK: Although this unit can stream video from the ipod using the i200 interface, the controls to access yoru video on the IPOD is rediculous. All you have is Play/pause, next, and previous. There is no listing of videos to choose from. If you want to watch an IPOD video, you have to first select it from the actual ipod and then you can only go next movie or previous movie!!

MP3's on DVD/CD's
1. Still way better than the REC since you can just touch the screen to select your songs!
2. BIG DRAWBACK!! so big that i was forced to buy the IPOD. When you select random on the REC, and press next track, it will go to the next random track. On the pioneer, this DOES NOT HAPPEN. Even when shuffle is selected, it goes to the next NON-RANDOM track. Shuffle only occurs when the current song finishes and it goes to the next random track. This is a severe flaw, and i was forced to buy an ipod, where NEXT TRACK is the NEXT RANDOM TRACK.
3. NEXT BIG DRAWBACK!! When you have MP3's on a DVD, there is a lot of pages of songs you need ot go through, but there is no easy way to scroll like you can in the REC. Just plain sucks.

Recommendation: If you use the PIONEER D3, BUY THE IPOD. there is no better way than an IPOD and D3 combined. If you only go with the D3, you are really only getting half your monies worth

DVD's and Divx
1. No faults here, everything works perfectly!! teh abilty to play divx on the unit is EXCELLENT considering IPOD's cannot play divx. You can normally fit 5 full movies on a single DVD!!!

Radio:
1. The REC allows for RDS, but the D3 does not. THe Factory navi is better in this regard.

Sound quality:
1. No comparison. My sound is alot more powerful and cleaner, with less equalization bull$hit that my factory REC navi Boston accoustic system has.

OVERALL: I am very pleased with the upgrade, since i dont use navigation too often. I recommend this to those seeking REC's for their LX's.

I strongly believe this option is much better than going with a MYGIG, or NAV2GO on REC, because the unit is CHEAP, and it just works so damn well.

Yea thats ture I do let the ladies do the the navigating LOL. I have an OK sense of directions I'm prettygood finding side streets I've neverbeen onto maneuver around traffic on the highway but when I'm in downtown Seattle grrrrrr I hate those streets cause there hella confusing sometimes and some streets have hillssteep as hell I hate going up them.

I thought about puting the Nav in my car.

Well that was a good write up, but that is a lot of work, lol. I wont use the NAV for watching DVD's and I am pretty good with directions. I can get to the town, just when I get there I would like somethiing to point me in the direction to get to my destination. Most of the time I travel by myself so it is nice when something talks. I wanted the NAV in my truck, but I wanted an 06 and this was the only mega cummins I could find [&:]
