Default 5w20 vs 0w20

Had the oil change done today, noticed the guys putting in 6 qts of synthetic mobil1 0w20. Asked about the difference between the specified 5w20 and 0w20 and was told there really wasnt too much and it wouldn't hurt. Went ahead and topped off the last quart with 5w20. Now, did I just get screwed?

I don't think you messed anything up.

It shouldn't affect anything. The only thing I have read about being an issue is that with the wrong weight oil your MDS may not work correctly (I think this more a case if you put in a higher weight ie. 10w30). Other than that you should be fine. 5w20 is for the 5.7L and 0w20 is for the 6.1L

I've wondered about this myself. Let us know, either way, if it works or not.

you should be fine. the mds only has a problem with heavier weight oils. mobil 1 is one of the best oils in the world also. do not worry.

I have always hear that the heavyer weight oil would render the MDS useless. I know they use 0w20 oil in the 6.1 cars. All should be ok but keep us posted.
