Default Cylinder 8 misfire

I have a 2015 R/T, had a cylinder 8 misfire.. after all the usual trouble shooting two shops concluded that a lifter took out a cam lobe and the motor needs to be torn down, the estimates are crazy high to repair, any suggestions on what to do ? and if I was to sell it as is what could I get for it, 85k mi, leather and plus package

How much to just toss a used motor in there?

What are the estimates you are getting?

How are your wrench turnin' skills? Got tools, and a place to work on it?

Used motor is 4k out the door with a six month warranty, but that's a big gamble, new cam and lifters 8k from a shop, I think you'd have to really know what your doing and have a shop full of tools to try that job yourself !

How much of a warranty on getting the cam and lifters replaced?

Yes, that IS a big job, gotta pull the heads, etc.

Something else to consider is: when the lifter wiped out that cam lobe, all those grindings had to go somewhere...... and that is "distributed throughout the rest of the motor"... Unless they are going to tear it down completely, and clean it out, that's a potential ticking time bomb there....

Good point! Sounds like a remanufactured long block is the best option

If I comb my hair right, no one should notice......

Might spend more on the motor, but, labor should be less.
