getting tired of charger bashers
hi there is it me or is anyone else getting sick and tired of catching crap from older model charger owners.especially all the self proclaimed experts of classic car designs who feel it necssesary to voice there unwanted opinons and comments.Ill admitt you can argue they maybe a little under powered but thats what mods are for
.....but that argument is all that valid when it comes to the daytonas and srt8 they in my opnion when they begin to get tricked out, they will wipe the floor with the older ones.heck what the great fun of having 450 hp 69 charger that if you over steer a little youll crash into a tree .it may be great to have 500 hp if your going straight on a track ,but there real world has turns and curves and idiots who have no idea how to drive .so if the new chargers stink because they have esp ,well im sorry ill bet any older charger owner would jump at the chance if a kit was available to install in there cars .in closing im getting tired of feeling like some sorta red headed step child no one wants ,and feeling the constant need in having to apologize and feeling guilty in buying it.sorry for venting but i just finished reading the march road and track magazine,(yes march but it was in the doctors office during a visit).just needed to vent thats all not meaning to offend anyone,i do feel a little better .besides forums are cheaper then a psychiatrist and besides i might find another magazine in a rack that would set me of again

So far my exxperience with 'charger bashers' has been of two kinds. First is the owners of old Chargers who don't like the fact that our new ones will smoke them. 400+ hp in a 1969 car was rated different then now. Unless they are really modded and have suspension to get the power to the ground, they will have a hard time. 15-16 second 1/4 miles were common stock on the muscle cars of the day.
Second, people who wish they had old Chargers and complain just on the principle that they can't afford the old Chargers or ours! Mostly I get nothing but lovin from anyone I come across. I am a die hard old Charger guy and see no problem with this modern, 4 door, people hauler *** kicking car.

3767,
I sold my 1971 Plymouth GTX Hurst 4 speed Dana 60 car for a new Daytona Charger. Comfort, quiet, smooth ride, good looks, color, warranty, practical four doors, and air conditioning all played a part. Sure I had my GTX modded with Direct Connection headers, hi-perf cam, 2 1/2" Flowmaster 40s, etc, etc, but most of you read my story about what changed my mind to the new cars: my son's 2003 50th anniversary ZO6 Corvette's 405+ HP car would smoke my 450HP GTX and do it with his A/C on... I started realizing that the new school cars were on the horizon. When I found out that Dodge was coming out with a big car Charger, I couldn't take the ground-pounding-loud old school car anymore. I certainly could take it anywhere, but a long trip was getting miserable (loud, rough riding, and horrible gas milage) and certainly not when it was hot out (about 80 or above, I'd cook in the cab from the heat off the engine). Oh, sure, I could have put A/C in it, but that was the beginning of a long list of want to's -- I bought my new Charger and LOVE it. What's not to like? Speed almost equal to my GTX in the quarter, faster on the top end, twice the gas milage, and still turns heads.
Let the bashers bash, they just try to get under your skin. Don't fret. YOU have the upper hand: they are either jealous or usually don't know what they are talking about -- and I have found THAT is greatly widespread here on these forums.

3767 - Don't fret, my friend. I was/am a member of another board and the BIGGEST problem the old Charger people folks have is that the new one is a 4-door. The HP difference isn't that great when you consider that the ratings back then were figured differently than now. What's the difference? I don't know. Someone more knowledgeable than I will have to explain that. I, like mnboy, enjoy my Charger because of the comfort, A/C, room, quietness (except when I want to ROAR
), and gas mileage. I have a 74 Scamp and a brand new, built 360 for it, but I'm selling it (or trying to). I just don't have the desire to put the time, money, blood, etc., into building a car that, when finished, will NOT be any faster or quicker than my Charger. Yes, I've had my issues with my particular car, and I feel that DCX is becoming aware of certain problems - at least with the R/T - and they will address those issues. Having said that, I love driving my car and will either keep it for a very long time, or trade for another R/T in a year or so when some of the issues I have have been addressed.
I'll be 60 in January, but I feel like a "kid" when I'm in my Charger. Yes, some of the "old" school Charger guys might be jealous because I too believe that our new ones will, for the most part, smoke the old Charger (except for modded, 440+6 and Hemis), but I believe that BOTH schools - old and new - have much to be proud of. Remember, the guys who have "rebuilt" their old Chargers/Road Runner/GTXs/Dusters/Cudas/Darts, etc., have put a lot of love and car into their rides. If it wasn't for the "original" Charger, we might not have what we have today; we'd still be hoping for something that, at least on some level, could compete with the likes of the Mustangs and GTOs. But I, for one, believe that comparing those to our new Chargers is like comparing apples to oranges. Now, when the new Challenger comes out, then we'll have something to compare those cars with. Afterall, the old Charger wasn't really compared to the Mustangs/Cameros/GTOs. That was left to the Darts and Cudas.
So, when they start bashing your new Charger, just smile - inside anyway - cause, as I tell my son who wants me to smoke the tires everytime I leave a stop - I DON'T NEED TOO! I KNOW what my car will do and I don't have to prove it to anyone
.
Hope this helps.

Why does everyone have to compare the performance of two cars that have obivously different pedigree's? The only thing common between the new Charger and any previous model is the name. You might as well compare it to any car of any era because it makes for the same complaints. Car magazines have a difficult time comparing any two cars in an unbiased fashion. Any comparison that you come to, will be biased in the favor of whatever car you have. Someone could probably make a case for a '73 Pinto being better than a new Charger... Who really cares. This is the reason there has never been peace in the Middle East, everyone has different opinions to way things should be.
Who really gives a crap if your car is .0001 second quicker than another, as long as you are enjoying driving it, and drives your adrenalin or whatever, then do it.
'cuz Billy's big brothers, best friend Steve knows someone that once saw in a magazine somewhere that Dodge's rule!

I gotta admit, I was a 4door Charger basher. Come on , I have a 60's two door B-body. When the charger came out at the LA auto show, it was two door and I was ok with that. But a 4 door for production, I was sick. So I was waiting for the challenger because I wanted a 2 door sports car. Then my wife decides she's tired of the truck and wants a car. Hum, a Camry, how about a Lexus. Yea right, I'm Moparmike, Nothing but Dodge, Let's go look at gas saver Calibers. So there sits the Yellow Daytona. She saw Yellow, Leather, and a sunroof and we were on our way home with this 4-door wanna be. Well, I gotta say, I am in love with these cars, way more fun than the Superbee when it comes to driving. Now a smokey doughnut in the Bee is hard to beat but the Charger stops, brakes, corners, and is more comfortable than any car I've ever owned. Nothing will replace the feel, looks, and sound of the ture old muscle cars but nothing old compares to this new technology. Being able to run the A/C at 100+ mph without overheating and getting good gas mileage is amazing. 300 mile road trips, Yea the superbee goes on a trailer. So, I gotta say. I don't go on forus for old detriot iron, I go to forums like this. I'm not interested in hearing about out dated car that where mastered years ago. I want to hear about the latest greatest. I enjoy all you folks hear who love these cars like I do and I can't wait to read more topics...

I wouldn't have bought this car if it didn't have four doors. Sometimes I like to go out and paint the town red... and the more the merrier
Another reason is running my kido around with her friends the extra two doors is invaluable.
I tune out all that Charger bashing stuff, just like a bad commercial.
