Actually you have it a bit backwards unfortunately. Out here at least on the West Coast, those that don't have the inate intelligence to get an education sometimes turn to law enforcement. It is a terrible situation. Even though I have a degree in EE I wanted to go into law enforcement. I spent the time to get an AA in criminal justice thinking I could make a difference. After the academy I was assigned and was unfortunately disenchanted. This is no small town as you assumed but it is full of people who are more interested what they could gain than what they could solve. I left without pointing any fingers but I was far from a washout and am making well into 6 figures now with my own business. I don't work construction as you say all LE washouts do I am the contractor that pays those washouts.

I think from beginning to end 'Naner, you've proven your little more than a poser, and unless I'm terribly wrong, the days when the value of your view meaning anything to anyone, have just passed.

The problem with a habitual liar.. is they don't know when to stop.. Your too crude, inarticulate, pompus & self servicing to be of any value to any reputable LE agency.. If in the wildest possiblility you are a member of some hamfisted, lowbrow, backwater inbred community.. Your still simply no one to which I can give any value to in any regard.

I'm honored to be apart of this community of enthusiast, but as I might with any rogue mutt, tipping over trash cans and making more noise than sense, your days are numbered pal.. You may wander through our community, but your views and values have proven your no value to it as a permanant member.

Zedd,

In 1975, when I was hired as a young 22 year old deputy upstart, the sheriff said this to me: "you might work here for 8 hours, but you are a deputy for 24". I never forgot those words.

Another sergeant in CA told us young bucks once this: "take your badges off... put them in your hands... how much do they weigh?" (3-4 ounces). "Just remember that."

I am NOT perfect. Nor was I. But I did remember that I WAS a representative of government and acted that way.

Respect is earned.

Your point about "lead by example if you want to be effective" should be tatoo'ed in the mind of every officer out there. Many do. Some don't. It's the some that make it rough on the most.

I left proud, I am proud, and I believe I made a difference. I have former criminals to this day, smile and talk to me -- I treated them as human beings with poor judgements, not as scum. We are all people, we just make different choices...

3767,

I have no rant with you, but just wanted to say, I AM a former deputy of a small town sheriff in the middle of nowhere, and it's amazing how Andy and Barney live in the spirit of those areas -- certainly, not in day to day function, but the ideals are the easy going, clean air, clean fishing holes, knowing most people, thoughtful, people we all should be.

I don't want a rant with you, nor did I post this to make you fell I wanted one. I was just letting you know that all small town sheriff's are not as little minded as you think...
