Dudes what a can of worms I opened up. I am guilty of leaving the Police Department for more money. I had to survive and police work for both my husband I was not going to give us the better things in life. He has continued in the law enforcement field and I chose the money. We are happy. He has been a cop since June 1973. Still at it. I miss it. I cant drive through Beaumont Texas without saying "hey I remember a call I made there and there and there..." It will always be a part of me. You dont hire in and go through the interview with the lame response..."I want to be a cop to help people"...You are really not helping them you are "mediating" their fights. You are not pro-active you are re-active. You are their problem solver...PERIOD! If you go through the job for 8 hours you see so much ****! I changed. I was a quiet, introverted person. HA! NO MORE! I am not going to say I had ROBCOP syndrome but I had to take control or I was going to get hurt. Not too many guys out there are going to take orders from a female officer. I had to back up what I said. I saw my fair share of things...I thank GOD for not getting killed... I feel like I did my dues and YEAH I do feel like I am owed PROFESSIONAL COURTESY. I appologize for starting this thread. ZEDD,mnboy and topbananna you guys all have your views and you all both entitled to them. I respect all of you!! You are my BRO's...You have all helped me out tremendously...I have nothing bad at all to say about any of you...

see what you guys did you upset the dodgegirl.my future wife is upset ...(i can dream cant i),any hoot dont sweat it dodgegirl no one here is mad or anything ,although i do have some angry fingers that cant stop typing[:'(]......zedd though could use an attitude adjustment [sm=loser.gif]........any ways im done on this topic except to say i consider all le coast to coast me brothers and sisters ,and the haters will always keep on hating ,but im used to it by now.as far as im concerned [sm=closed.gif]

I'm not going to take my time to reply to 3767's further comments since his replies turned into personal attacks against me instead of my opinions and ideas. First rule of debate, attack the opinion not the person.

I was OK with all this until I read about the "pro-active, re-active" part. Bull. What is the difference? Hmm? Whoever started the police are reactive, not pro active rant is full of BS... I know I've heard this on Rush and other "knowledgeable" programs, and I can see what THEY are saying (reacting), however, THAT is a generalization of the job -- of ANY job.

These are "spins" of words -- rhetoric, pure rhetoric.

For every action, there is a equal and opposite reaction, said Sir Issac Newton -- tell me ANY job that isn't reactive...

I see garbage on the corner, I pick it up, I'm a garbage collector; I hear a baby cry, and change it's diaper or feed it, I'm a babysitter; I hear my phone ring, I answer it, I'm a teenager (LOL); I have a report due, I read my assignments to gather information to write it, I'm a college student; I pick up injured people and take them to a hospital, I am an EMT; You show me an empty cup, I pour coffee, I am a waitress; I see a dangerous felon and take him off the streets, I am a police officer... etc, etc

So what's proactive?

Well heres my expensive ticket story.

I was 18... maybe 19.
Middle of January, a friend and I are out snowmobiling through town after a blizzard.
New cop in a small town - he came from a bigger town and had a huge chip on his shoulder.

Now first of all I will admit I was definately in the wrong here - but it was fun - and makes a good story.

We were riding down Main St. at 10 or 11 pm. No big deal, lots of people do it. But the street was really icey, so we were spinning cookies, and jumping the snow piled up at the corners. Here comes the new deputy... We aim North and pin the throttle. Blow a stop sign, hit triple digit speeds, and leave the deputy far behind.

Well later he finds out who we were. And we volunteer to meet him in his office.... when we get there he starts dealing out traffic tickets like playing cards..I think we each got five...totalling close to $800, and a required court appearance.

A week later we both get letters from the DA... knocked down to 6 months probation (meaning no traffic tickets) and if we broke that we only got a $60 speeding ticket.

MOST first offenses are deferred, meaning, if you behave yourself for the next six months, your ticket(s) will vaporize.

But it usually only happens if your slate is clean and it is your first offense.

Yeah, it's tough to get away when on the side of your snowmobile are 6" reflective numbers and letters of registration .
