My thought is if they used Royal Purple in the engine and didn't completely eliminate the effects of it (it's not easy), and then drained it and put in Mobil 1, the effects of RP is still helping. I wouldn't give Mobile 1 all the credit if it was used just after RP.
If it were the other way around, I'd say the same thing...

I would absolutely believe it. Right now, the Mopar blend is fine, and more affordable, to me.
I get bombarded constantly with my boys and their friends singing the praises of full synthetic...

Reg oil was drained and mobil1 syn was put in.There was no rp then mobil 1 .I am just passing on info I was told that this guys saw it first hand.Believe it or not, I have watched Rp ads and I do believe.
I am a firm believer in Synthetic oil. I have been using Synthetic in all my company vehicles and personal for about 6 yrs. I have over 400k on one of my vehicles and I change the oil every 10k w/ filter. I recently started going to 15k. The owners manual says 7500. I use Valvoline filters which are made by Champion which makes K&N oil filters along with others. Never a problem! Not sure about HP gains but I would never go back to conventional oil. My 2 cents!!

I'm sure it's normal, but I noticed that my idle oil psi with break-in oil/OEM original oil was about 26-27 in park at warm idle.
After I changed over (first oil change @2400miles) to the Royal Purple 5W20, my idle oil PSI is around 18-19 at idle in D, and about 20 psi at idle in park.
Anyone else notice such a large difference?

Oil pressure drop during break in is normal (within reason of course). When the engine is fresh off the line, the tolerances are at the tight end of the specification. That is by design so the final burnishing effect of the parts rubbing against each other will bring the parts to spec. I've had a couple of engines that pegged the oil guage when first put together but settled down to a normal pressure after a few hundred miles. They lasted 150K+ so the machine shop must have done something right. If the person were talking about a drop after the second or third change, I would give it more concern. Also, the important pressure is at operating speed rather than idle. They don't mention if the pressure is lower at that point or not.
As far as synthetic vs non synthetic goes, I definitely noticed a difference when I switched to a high mileage synthetic a few years back. My truck ran smoother and and accelerated a little quicker. I wouldn't say 15 HP but it definitely made a difference. I don't plan on going back. I figure the extra cost is an investment in the longevity of the engine. Pay me now or pay me later. By the way, I didn't notice any change in pressure on a 75K motor.

I think I read something last night about having to calibrate dynos also. They said that dyno operators can "fudge" numbers to make engines look like they are producing more hp and tq. Temp, humidty, baremetric pressure all effect the numbers. So I guess it is all up in the air as to what is what.
