I've been useing royal purple for years in my HOG. American Iron ran a test and with the dyna glide on a dyno and not only did the bike get more HP. but the thurmo scan showed the rear cyc in the hog that really gets hot was a cool as the front. Im a real beleiver my SE road glide with a 103 stage 3 stroker at 125 ponies runns cooler and dont ping with the purple stuff. the HD syth oil my clutch would get hot from the monster motor. Purple is for me. In NJ I pay 625 a quart if I buy a case of 12.

Baldy,

What do they do for a 18,000 mile "tune-up" for $300? Let's see: no points, no plugs, no wires, no timing issues, no air filter, what in the heck did they charge you FOR? I can see oil, filter, tire rotation, ok, maybe an alienment... what the heck was $300 for??

Gents,
I think I remember the commercial you're referring to. Wasn't it a "Slick 50" commercial that they ran the engine with no oil/lubricant in the pan (or was it without a pan)?
Here's an article you may all find of interest that addresses ALMOST ALL of the horsepower, oil pressure, temperature and lubrication issues that have been addressed in this thread:
http://skepdic.com/slick50.html
I found this to be very interesting and helpful. Hope some of you do too.

Hey folks:

Perhaps off the topic, yet germane to the stealership issue (Yea, I know the Germans have nothing to do with it....)

Anyway, I guess I am lucky: Oil changes at my dealership are buy three and get the third one free (which ends up to be around $20 each). They will also align the vehicle for so long as it is under warranty. Pretty sweet. So far, they have been good to deal with. They are big on sucking up to people who actually buy the car there. Ah, life in a small town. We'll see what they think about the corsa exhaust.

I run Redline in my 442. The 455 is pretty fresh (about 1000 miles). It costs me about $90 bucks an oilchange, sans labor. I noticed no increase in anything except the warm fuzzy feeling that made me think that I was protecting my investment with too many zero's in the cost. I suspect that changing my driving habits would have a more profound impact on that. 15 hp seems like a lot of boost for these cars for just changing the oil.

Humbly

Oh the oldies and hating anything new. ..

Just because it's newer and better does not mean you need to fear it old men.

Synthetic oil is better, regardless of what the hell you think. lets take a moment to consider a few things.

Dodge Viper exclusively recomends MOBIL 1 synthetic oils
ok so our mighty Viper uses it or else you void your warrenty lets move on shall we
Chevrolet Corvette ZO6 Also recomends MOBIL 1 again with the warranty
Porsche ummm all of them MOBIL 1 synthetic wins agian
lets throw something nice out there
Aston Martin Vanquish S and the verdict says MOBIL 1 Synthetic
Now come on even the SRT-4's and SRT-8s all take MOBIL 1 Synthetic oils

So wake up and smell reality
Yes it cost more boo hoo
when you tear your bottom end up after 150k or 200k to replace those main barings and see they are scorched cause you
used conventinal oil then check that those who use SYNthetic are not replacing major componets are laughing at you for being old well then good day
and all those cars up there are broken in with synthetic and yes Ferrari and Lamborgini and Lotus and who the hell esle ever, all use Synthetic oil
