3.23 gears would wake our chargers up in my opinion. Even getting the 3.06gears that are in the SRT-8 cars would help somewhat. But no one in this thread is complaining of any mechanical problems with thier chargers right? All I ask from my charger is to last 40,000miles with some hard very very rarely.

Nicky,

Good observation.

Gearing DOES make a difference, however, with a plus on the bottom end, you loose in the upper end, etc., so trade-offs are made in switching gears. Dodge certainly put in average gears for the heavy family car, but it still goes pretty good. You really want to check around before you switch as it is expensive and if it is what you want.

For a bit more snap, lowering the RPM range with gearing would do the trick .

First thing is I'm going on record saying that I love my Charger. I think that it is truly the muscle car of the new millenium. Performance, handling, comfort, fuel mileage all in one package.

With that being said, what I don't care for is the attitude of parent company, Daimler. Supposedly when the "merger" happened, Daimler was supposed to be bringing to the new corporation higher quality standards. I've seen better paint jobs on Earl Schrib specials. Check out the door jambs, engine compartment, trunk area and gas filler compartment. Looks like the paint robot had been smoking weed. This is my fourth Mopar in a row (2 Plymouth minivans and a Chrysler 300m Special) and the Charger has the worst paint quality of the lot.

There are too many things on this car that screams "CHEAP!" Hood prop rod rather than gas struts. Since this is a performance car, how about some performance lighting. Even the SRT8 doesn't have projected beams which you can find on most non-base model Japanese and Korean cars today. The list goes on. Maybe Daimler thinks that we will be too dazzled by having a Hemi that we won't notice the corners being cut in the other areas. Or maybe Dr Z. thinks we are too dumb to know any different.

My wife's 300m Special was a pre-Daimler design and has the room and handling of the Charger. The Special package had the 255 HP High Output 3.5L V6 engine, performance suspension and a bunch of other goodies that made this car world class performance/touring car. More good things were rumored to come. Chrysler had dropped a 353 Hemi into one of these bodies, made it rear wheel drive, cut off the top and did the show circuit with it. The response was phenomonal. Speculation was that this might be the basis for the 300n. Then Daimler came along. . .

From what I can see, the only car that Daimler really cares about is Mercedes. Chrysler seems to be around to help subsidize MB and we should be grateful to accept the tinkle down technology that we get from that association. If it's from Germany, then it must be superior engineering. That's Daimler's story and they're sticking by it. Looking at the design trends, Chrysler-Dodge-Jeep is losing it's identity as a company as it becomes assimilated into the Daimler collective. Resistance is futile.

As much as I hate to admit it, unless Daimler has a change of attitude, my Charger may be the last new Mopar that I buy. I hope I'm wrong.

Well even with 3.92 gears the chargers would still be able to hit 160mph and get there pretty quick. But 3.92's in the charger would really lower gas mileage since at 65mph the car would be at around 2500RPM which is like going 85mph with the 2.82's.

Redbeard,

Not sure why you hate DCX so much. DCX is on the cutting edge of the automotive industry! Would you like to see Mopar become Ford and GM? Mercedes has brought a lot to Chrysler. Dodge is a sports car not a luxary car. Buy a 300c or SRT 8 300. Ya some things seem cheap but for the $$ you will not find a better car on the road!! Thats all I gotta say about that!!

OK blue midnight (thats my color to by the way)I respect your opinion but absolutly nothing against you i couldnt agree with you less.1 Chrysler benifited 2 fold from the merger.from quality to design Example look at the stratus ugly design and poor quality.I meen look at the trannys chrysler used prior to the merger they where horrible. My mother hade a 2000 stratus and before it hade 5,000 miles it needed the tranny replaced under warranty. My sister hade a 2001 grand caravan and at 20,000 miles the tranny hade to be replaced.2 I think that MOPAR DCX has one of the strongest identitys among any company .There is a reason why dcx is thriveing through GMC's and ford"s darkdays. Its the style and quality of the overall lineup!!!.And its not the german enginering its the german standard.I meen germanys taxis are MBs LOL and every model sold there from any companys standard equip = our well equiped. With that said Mopar is in my blood.Every one of my family members drives a MOPAR.My uncle is a local rep for dcx my twin brother is a DCX Master tech.My brother inlaw is a parts manager for dodge.I hope your feelings change (im still not shure from where they sprung) and all you ever buy is MOPAR

remember MOPAR or NOCAR[sm=happybounce.gif]

Perhaps they should offer optional gears
I know of Chevy in doing so.
You will only have to pay a higher GAS TAX.
For those buyers with the optional gears on any vehicle
Now you GOT MORE BUYERS
Why do you think a lot of automotive builders?
Are now offering there own line of performance, body parts and lighting to
Make that money. Builders like Saturn, Toyota
With optional upgrade like a TURBO and I could of sworn I seen some one
Offer a NOS Kit for there car. That is what it’s about
Meeting the needs of today and the NEW CAR CRAZY PEOPLE
Making it quicker is what we love to do. Going down to cruise nights
Showing it off talking to others just making it look *****.

I have 10,000 miles on my car and I love it. I burnout plenty with the help pf power breaking! But its far faster than any of my friends cars! Most of my friends have spendy Japanese cars and nothing keeps up from a dead stop. I have dyno's of my R/T that show 294hp at the wheels and that is exactly the same as the Daytona's claim to have 10 more HP. After you to the math the engine has atleast 350 - 360 horse power at the crank.

But my mileage sucks!! I get 11-14 in town and the best I have ever seen on the highway is 22. I think maybe my alighnment might be slightly off and I drive her hard constantly!

I have seen other dynos that show results like 270 and 280 hp at the wheels and I wonder if they are using reg or mid grade fuels? I use nothing but SUPER from 76 here in Seattle and nothing runs better!! I use other name brands and it is sluggish off the line, I have even had friends say that it felt sluggish and they didnt know I filled up with another brand. I cant speak for all areas and would not know why but it makes a huge difference in how the engine performs.

I ran my Charger early in the day about 1030 am here and it was in the 50's fortemps. All stock and just used Premium fuel from 76.

Read the new Mopar Muscle mag article, 13.8s in the quarter with headers and exhaust on a daytona. As for mileage I get 20 to 25 in mixed driving, high teens if I play a little bit more. Love the car. It has 16,000 miles and no problems, other than getting it away from the wife. I think some of you guys need a little cheese to go along with that whine.
