I'm starting to wonder if there is something wrong with the car. I have been racing for years, throw that out the window. I had a fairly good reaction time for a pro tree, I did the old hold the esp button for 8 sec. and I left the auto stick in 1 (it shifts on it's own). My tires are at 44 psi and I had less than a 1/4 tank of fuel. I stalled the converter up before launch. The tires did not spin at all. Go figure.

Are you sure that you did not buy the 'LX' Daytona?
Anyone can have an 'off night'. That was yours. Next time you will kick some a$$.
I was robbed of any dignity with my bone stock Daytona running a 14.43. After some digging I found that the gas I had in my tank was a 'summer blend', especially for use here in Houston. It has additives to keep it from vaporizing easily on our hot days. Last week we returned to the 'winter blend' which has 8% more energy density, and is 17 cents cheaper per gallon to make. Today regular was $1.98 and 93 octane premium was $2.17 for Chevron (good stuff).
I am returning to the strip in Baytown, Tx on 10/20/06 for the Friday night 'drive what ya brought' at 'Houston Raceway Park' in Baytown. Saturday and Sunday are the Mopar Nationals at the same track., so there should be some extreme MOPAR tuning going on that night! Anyone and everyone, please come and join in $15 to run your car for the entire evening.
It should be an ideal night for record times. I predict a sub 14 second time --- bone stock!

im not bashing here but i may have an answer to the week link in the drive train ,its not going to be the tranny its got to be the motor, now if my memory serves me right the 5.7 and the 6.1 are the same except that the block is slightly more bored out for bigger pistons.there was a previous thread where someone said the internals on the 5.7 where some what weaker for weight reasons,i cant remember all the technical stuff but some of the key points where hollowed out camshaft aluminum alloy heads for weight reduction and the rings where 3mm from the top of the piston.what they call weight reduction i call cost savings if your gonna save weight save it soemwhere else but not in the heart and soul of the machine .to me it sounds that the 6.1 is everything that should have been done to the 5.7 forged crankshaft stronger pistons.so if i had to guess the motor will be the weak link under pressure.it will be left to us gear heads to fix what the factory didnt do in the first place.as far as the warranty goes if we mod them personally moding makes them better .so f there warranty its going to be upto us as always to do it right.just sucks knowing where going to be abandoned by the factory, like red headed stepchilderen, the funny part is they will take the credit when a modded charger kicks a$$....hoping to boost sales.i dont mind modding heck its a hobby thats cheaper the crack more rewarding then sex(married 3 kids sex is over ) and more sane then a shrink.so who cares heck ive got full coverage if something goes totally crazy, ill have to upgrade to the srt8

I love the car, no, it's not as fast as a Stang but I love the fact that I can "compete" with them and do it with room for the kids and the comfort of a Lincoln LS.
That said, I am a Jeep guy and have been for the past 20 yrs.--I know the effects of improper gearing. I believe that Dodge "de-tuned" this vehicle using the rear-end gearing. I mean look at the mustangs--it's way lighter but ford equiped it with a lower rear end ratio--this is why it gets off the line so quick.
Give us R/T owners some lower gears and we'll not only bust the 13's but be able to ride in style and comfort---MPG---a lower ratio may even help by not having to "stand on it" to get it off the line quick, then let the MDS take over on the highway (should kick in quicker with the lower ratio)
If anyone finds some lower gears available, let me know--save your cams, flashpacs, catbacks ETC.-- gears, in my opinion, are the way to go

This really is a pretty funny thread guys. Do you realize that the most vocal here are demanding answers for questions that don't yet exist? This PDF bulletin from Dodge alerting the service managers about mods has sent some here into a tizzy tilting at windmills. Our transmission is a MB unit that is highly regarded. Our rear diff I am not sure about but I know parts of it are stamped Bosch and others have MB part numbers. Our engine has been in trucks for years, and yes they have been modded. Our entire platform has been around for a few years in the 300/Magnum line without huge failures. Last I checked those guys modded as well. It really seems the one biggest complaint here is that they won't smoke the tires enough. Did anyone ever stop to think that everytime your tires break loose that is wasted energy that could be sending you forward? This is a heavy assed car with 50/50 weight distribution. You compare it to lighter old 440 Charger/Road Runner whatever with closer to 60/40 and lousy tires and it makes perfect sense that these cars don't smoke the tires the same.
My good buddy TB3767, that system you've mention to turn on the fan and cut off the ESP was installed on my car quite a while ago. It does indeed seem to cut off the ESP. It is not however the end all of end alls you are hoping. If I power brake and launch I can pretty much lay down however much rubber I wish. Now that I can however I prefer going forward. It is damn nice not fighting my foot to keep the tires down the way I used to with big V8 RWD power. My car is awesome and does everything I want it to do. It hasn't let me down yet and I hope it doesn't. If it does and it is due to one of my mods, I will pay to have it fixed.
EDIT: khurst, you are so right it isn't even funny. Even toss some mediocre gears like 3.55 into these cars and they will explode.

Agreed Zedd, et al. I was very surprised to see the estimated mpg of the new Mustang. Then I saw the rear gearing and understand why they are somewhat quicker, but get worse mpg than we do.
I'm thinking that my pitiful times at the strip were not that bad afterall - everything considered. My only question is WHAT prompted DCX to send out that "service bulletin"? IS there a problem? Something prompted them to send it out - what was that? If we knew, we could probably fix it and be on our way. It wouldn't be the first time that something raised its ugly head - even after miles and miles of testing and running in other vehicles.
