Default Barn find 65 Dodge Coronet 440 ignition problems

I just got this beauty yesterday. She cleaned up really nice, engine turns over no problem, but I poured some fuel and used a starting spray, but nothing. Not even attempting to fire. Its been sitting for a while and had some corrosion in the dist cap that I cleaned up. I also replaced the ballast resistor and coil. Im not real familiar with these older Dodges and dont know what to trouble shoot next.

Holy smokes! That looks to be in REALLY good shape. How long has it been sitting?

I dont know but I dont think very long..a couple years maybe....I went to look at a 62 Chrysler 300 when this caught my eye sitting in the barn with about 20 other cars. Owner said he bought from a guy who was moving to Tiawan but I never got around to asking how long it sat. I just knew I had to have it and the price was right! Now if I could only figure out why no spark!

The first thing I'd do is a $1 special. Literally. Take an emory board like when you get your nails done (or is that just me? ) and a $1 bill. Hold the points together with the emory board in the middle. Pull it out. This will clean any corrosion off the points. Then put the dollar bill in the middle and pull it out. A dollar isn't really paper but cloth and will clean the points. They may just have a little corrosion on them. You'll need to replace them but this might get it going. If you're not concerned about originality, I'd swap it over to electronic ignition.

This! Point's will last for a while and you will be messing with them again. You can get a conversion kit from mopar performance. What is that flat piece of steel bolted to water pump housing?

Sorry, I should have mentioned it has a complete MSD ignition system, so no points.

I could be wrong but I believe ballast resistors are only required with points. Electronic ignitions don't usually require them ??

The ealry electronic ignitions use them but the later, OBD II with everything from the computer doesn't. If you have the brain box, you have the resistor.

He has a full MSD ignition setup though, think that is something I would consult with MSD on......
