Question Dodge Dart Vehicle not in Park

Has anyone had any luck sourcing a replacement Micro switch for the shifter assembly on the newer Dodge Darts? (2014 2.4L Auto GT Push Button start) I have searched the threads and haven't came across any fixes for correcting the Vehicle not in Park display and not shutting off the engine, other than a complete assembly. Crazy as a micro switch is only a couple bucks. I have diagnosed it as the micro switch. I bend the tab it works of a bit but over time becomes unspring and I have to do it again. Kind of a pain but for the cost of the assembly but an easy, but annoying, patch. It will eventually not work so I would like to replace the switch. I am locate in a rural area with no access to an electronics shop to try different switches. I can believe I am the only one that has this idea so I am hoping someone will share their success.

Any numbers on the switch? It's likely just a standard microswitch of some description or other. Might be able to source one that way.

Default Shifter micro switch fix

I fixed the vehicle not in park deal this evening.
Bending the lever arm on the switch did nothing but make it worse. The little pin that pushes the switch arm up is slightly too small in diameter for such a flimsy switch arm. I took a vacuum cap from an assortment box I had that fit nice and snug over the pin. I cut off about a 3/16" long piece and slipped it onto the pin. You don't want it to touch the white plastic piece with notches that the pin rides under. It just needs to be as wide as the switch arm. This worked great and puts the extra lift on the arm that you need. My guess is this may work on other Dodge vehicles also.

Here us the pin and switch arm. Just pull the shifter bezel off.

Small vacuum cap.

Fixed!

This really helped. I have been trying for a couple months now to figure out why my 2015 Dart was doing this. I definitely will be giving this a try and if it works tyhen Dodge will be hearing from me because this problem is ridiculous. Thank you for the tip and help

Actually, this only worked for about 6 months. I wound up cutting the two wires going to the switch and spicing them together. This eliminates the ridiculous switch all together and fixed the problem forever.

Can you provide some more detail into how to splice the two wires together? I have the same problem with my son's 2014 Dart and the dealership told me they cannot even order the new the assembly

There are 2 wires going into the switch. I beleive I cut them off right at the switch, stripped a little insulation off and then soldered the 2 wires together. You can use a crimp connector of some sort if you rather. One wire goes into the switch and the other comes out. The switch just lets the power flow through when the lever gets pushed by the shifter. By splicing the wires together, you eliminate the faulty switch.

Thank you for the quick reply. Does it cause any other issues with the car? It is a permanent solution and just want to make sure I will not have other issues come up as a result.

Thx.

No problems at all for a person who can remember to put the car in park.

Did this, however, I can hear a clicking sound every time I applies brakes. Do you think it will have future problem when wires permanently joint together?
