How mnay daytona owners here?? ROLL CALL!!
Im making payments on a new Hemi quad cab but its really no good for cruising because of the fuel costs, so im looking for a sport coupe to cruise around in the summer, and avoid the constant fill-ups in the truck. Found an 89' Chrysler Daytona ES, with 2.5 4cyl turbo, automatic, t-top roof. Buddy only wants $500obo for it, but I cant get a hold of him right now, hope its not sold!! it looks like a good car to start from, just needs minor body work, and a fuel pump. I'll keep you guys informed!
Careful with the old Daytonas. Make sure you get a good carfax report. Kids tend to get ahold of these cars and much like your 80's and early 90's camaros they tear them up and drive them into the ground.
Also make sure the odometer is correct. The Daytonas of the late 80's early 90s had a well known issue where the teeth that turned the odometer wore off and the odometer quits working. Its a pain to fix yourself, and they don't make many parts for this car anymore.
Also if you go to look at it make sure you listen closely to the engine. The 2.5l had a well known issue with the valves tapping and making a little bit of noise. Replacement of the valve seals was a common fix. Personally I probably would shy away from buying another Daytona unless you can find one in mint condition. Mine threw a rod while I was driving on the interstate and it really didn't get that great of gas mileage for a four cylinder either and mine was the non-turbo engine.

Yeah ive had shadows in the past, one with a 2.2, one with a 2.5, both non turbo. Almost every 2.2 and 2.5 i've heard had the tick in it, and the fuel mileage wasnt good in my 2.2 but I had the timing chain replaced, and it made it alot better on fuel, a big difference. I just dont want to buy a 318 or 360 and burn around at 8MPG, which is my experience with the older TBI 318's.

I've had my second Daytona, a 1993 IROC (in Emerald Green Pearl Coat, the first year Chrysler issued that paint color) since Oct 1992! I love it and no car has ever turned my head enough to trade her in, not even a Mustang. BUT now the Challenger has, but I still can't bring myself to trade in my Daytona - it was the last model year. Plus, the base price of the Challenger has gone up and I can't afford it.
She's got "old car problems", lately the auto door locks have been flipping out; the passenger door switch I believe is the problem.
Prior to the IROC, I had a 1988 Daytona in Silver.
Maybe Chrysler/Dodge will bring back the Daytona, at an affordable price, and I can keep my Daytona legacy going.

Proud owner of a 2006 TorRed Daytona R/T
Bought her brand new & have since decided that I'm going to be keeping her for a VERY long time, so I just bought a used 2000 Durango to drive during the winter so my 'baby' can stay out of the salt
