Default Swapping gears, from a 3.21 to 3.92

The truck I WAS going to buy was sold the day before I went to pick it up, so I bought a cheaper 2010 with 3.21's knowing I'd have to swap it out later.

Today I found a set of 3.92s from a 2010 at a salvage yard and this is what I pulled. Cost $260

I have no idea if this diff includes the LSD or not. I assume since its not sealed it doesnt or dodge uses helical maybe?

My question is should I still buy the $125 master install kit with the shims, etc or should it bolt right in. Granted I'll still paint the gears and check for clearance and use a backlash gauge.

Any help is appreciated.

It should be an LSD. Look inside the carrier and you will find the friction clutches between the spider gears and the carrier housing.

Probably a good idea to get the master install kit. Most pro installers won't install without it.

Here is an excellent link with photos re install tips:

Turn the diff sideways and take a picture, first there is NO tone ring on there, that makes me think that is an older rear, unless someone took it off, a 2010 would have an AUBURN in it and not a trac-loc if it is an LSD

Bull, can you explain what I should be looking for? I had this pulled from a 2010. All 4gen 3.92 LSDs are from Aurburn and non-lsd from Trac-loc? They better have pulled it from the new truck.

I got lucky and found one with 17K miles, no rear end damage. But yea, called around.

Silly question, but is your truck 2WD?
