Help wanted on Dodge Journey SE 2012 Block Heater
Hello all,
I'm a complete zero when it comes to anything related to automobiles, and am hoping someone will be able to help me. I just moved to a Northern Canadian town with legendary cold winters, and where a block heater is an absolute must.
I checked today at a garage in town, and was told it would cost me about $450 to have one installed.
I have no idea if this is a fair price, or if it's something I could order off of Ebay or the like and have installed by someone from kijiji or craiglist.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Eric

Holy smokes, that seems REALLY over the top. Couple different kinds of engine heaters, constant flow fellers, that get plumbed into a heater hose, and block heaters, that replace a freeze plug. I am REAL curious where they get that 450 bucks from..... that would only be reasonable if the block heater itself cost 350 bucks.....
HeyYou, I frankly have no idea how much it should cost, as I've never really needed one. It just seemed to me to be quite on the high side, which is why I didn't go for it.
Is it something I could order online, and then have installed by a mechanic? And if ordering, is there a complete package I need? Sorry for the really newbie questions.

You can order them online for under 50 bucks, and you could probably install one of the constant flow fellers, that plumbs into your heater hose, in about 15 minutes, in your driveway, with a knife, and a screwdriver......
Thanks HeyYou. I saw one advertised for 32 bucks. Would this be what I need? Cheers

That is just a cord for a 5.9L engine block heater that is already installed. Read the description. Moving this to the Journey section as this section is for introductions, not technical discussions.
