factory head unit and burnt cds
I have the basic factory head unit in my 2005 RT magnum. It is not the 6 disc mp3 player, just the basic one. Does anyone know why I can't play burnt cds in this? I am using CD-R cds. Thanks.
A lot of factory radios will not read all forms of recordable CD's. You can try and burn in another format and see if it helps. Don't bother taking it in, they will tell you not to play CD-R's.
Thanks for the response. That is what I figured. I know the cd works b/c I used it in my wifes Honda factory head unit. If I up grade to the MP3 player, will that play burnt cds with mp3s? I know it sounds like a stupid questions but these are factory items.
I regularly play cd-r's in my 6-disk factory unit - hmmm, 6 disks at ~150 tunes each = what, couple of weeks never hearing the same tune twice?

Nevermind---I already figured it out. You guys are able to play MP3 format in your LX cars? We have problems just getting 192bps in CD-R format to read in the factory radios.
If you are having trouble getting a CD-R to read try re-burning at a slower speed like 160 or 128.

I use burned CD-R's & CD-RW's in my basic player no problem.
-Try your Cd's in another unit to see if they work.
-This was a problem with my home unit and burning the CD's at a lower speed solved it.
-You might also try a different brand of CD's.
-Will cd's burned on another burner work?

It's just that some cd players are picky. I've had the same trouble with my cd-changer playing burned discs. It doesn't like discs that are highly reflective. When I made more discs using a brand that was black on one side, the discs played flawlessly everytime.
When you burn a CD, make sure you "Finalize" the CD, even if it's a CD-R. There is usually an option somewhere in the burning software.
Dodgemech, you're confusing Compression bit rate 192 bps, 160 bps, etc. with Write speed 40x, 32x, etc. When burning an audio CD you can't control the bitrate because you're burning WAV files to the CD and they are uncompressed.
